Warren vs Musk

No? They gave it so that we would be free of England.
Well, if you don't believe in America, then you're an infidel.

They had a greater purpose, to be free from all sorts of oppression.

Sure, that too. Whys this relevant to the topic? Warren is the opressor?

In this corner, you have a lawyer, politician who has never created a job, who has spent the last 10 years being paid 175k by you to spend your money and tell you to pay more. Who says we dont spend too much, we dont tax enough and billionaires need to pay more.
In the other corner, you have a billionaire who cofounded several businesses, creating trillions in wealth and employing tens of thousands of people and has paid and will pay more taxes than nearly all people on earth, in the history of the earth.

Who will win? Well, we know the federal govt always wins. Warren wont hesitate to abuse her position and the power of govt to get what she wants. The govt, after all, will be taking half his income this year. For which he will get? The same thing as those who live off welfare. The military, FDA, John Kerry, etc.

Some pay, everyone benefits.

Side question. how does Warren know how much Elon paid in taxes last year? Isnt that private?
Source for taking half of his income?

ProPublica has obtained a vast cache of IRS information showing how billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Warren Buffett pay little in income tax compared to their massive wealth — sometimes, even nothing.

I don't know anything about Musk but Warren is a batshit crazy KOOK and the people who voted her into office have got to be mentally ill......

Well, I don't know Musk's tax situation, but he received huge amounts in stock options and grants with enormous gains. I am not sure if those are taxed in California or Texas given his move mid year and how California taxes work in that regard. However he could very easily be at 37 + 3.8 on the federal side plus 13.4 on the California side. That gets you over 50% at the marginal level and given the size of the numbers would probably weight out to north of 50%.

Whats enough? Personally I prefer equality, in which case hes paid his share of taxes for his entire lifetime, already.
His ability to spend has nothing to do with work anymore. He increased his net worth by over 100bn in a single year, more than some small country’s GDP. A tweet can send him up or down tens of billions in a single day.

Fair is arbitrary. There is no way to say objectively that something is fair or not. I think the best way to approach it is to look at what produces the best outcomes. Historically, extreme wealth inequality has produced pretty bad outcomes every time it’s manifested.

I don't get why Elizabeth Warren keeps going after Elon Musk personally. People admire Elon Musk...or at least, he's a lot more popular than she is. If she wants a supervillain to be a poster child of robber barons, couldn't she at least choose an unlikable billionaire like Charles Koch or Robert Kraft or Travis Kalanick? What's the point of setting up a one-sided rivalry with a guy who most people admire?

The US has the spiritual purpose as the last vestige of freedom on a wayward planet.

She is to lead the world into the Ascension.

Fair is the opposite of arbitrary. It literally means equal.

fair

adjective

1a: marked by impartiality

"best outcomes" or "bad outcomes" is arbitrary.

They are the richest, thus on the socialist scale, the most bad.

What's a "fair" amount of wealth for Elon Musk to be compensated for his work then? What if he had made $10B less this year? Or $20B more?

Good/bad outcomes isn't arbitrary because you can actually look at data, but there is no standard to determine if an level of wealth is objectively fair or not. I care about our democracy and society functioning well. Elon Musk's net worth is close to the GDP of many US states. As a libertarian and a democracy enjoyer, I don't believe in that much power being concentrated in one person.

I'm a socialist. I think rich people are fine. The only real issue I take with the ultra-wealthy is how they got their wealth and how extreme inequality impacts the functioning of democracy.

A fair amount of compensation for work is whatever both sides agree to. They are both equal in their freedom to decide to accept the transaction or not.

It was the British Empire the US won independence from not England.
If you call a Scottish person English they tend to get quite upset for obvious reasons.

Technically Great Britain, but a distinction without a difference.

Good Lord, he has created trillions in wealth and only created tens of thousands of jobs? What a failure of capitalism.
Ford builds millions of cars for a fraction of the wealth. Tesla is the worst investment in history.
