In this corner, you have a lawyer, politician who has never created a job, who has spent the last 10 years being paid 175k by you to spend your money and tell you to pay more. Who says we dont spend too much, we dont tax enough and billionaires need to pay more.
In the other corner, you have a billionaire who cofounded several businesses, creating trillions in wealth and employing tens of thousands of people and has paid and will pay more taxes than nearly all people on earth, in the history of the earth.

Who will win? Well, we know the federal govt always wins. Warren wont hesitate to abuse her position and the power of govt to get what she wants. The govt, after all, will be taking half his income this year. For which he will get? The same thing as those who live off welfare. The military, FDA, John Kerry, etc.

Some pay, everyone benefits.

Side question. how does Warren know how much Elon paid in taxes last year? Isnt that private?

Those evil successful people are always up to no good. Making money, creating jobs, disgusting! My loyalty is with degenerate losers that need public assistance to survive.

The govt, after all, will be taking half his income this year.
And the news reports that some women want to take some of his income, too, for alleged sexual harassment at Tesla units.

Whores gonna whore. They must be so traumatized. Only money will make it better.

My problem is the one-sided arguments that only take one side of an equation.

On one hand, you have the job creators and on the other hand corruptible people.

Where is the proper division, what is a safe and level playing field?

Not the 2017 tax cut.

Calling her "Senator Karen" may just be the line of year.

As you young people say (I am 84): laughing my [posterior] off.

A lot of people, I imagine, are really upset this morning that an appeals court has ruled that the trial given to Mr. W., the now disgraced Hollywood producer, was a farce. The court ruled that the trial judge did not give him a fair trial.

Of course, I do not know the truth of the accusations.

But someone like him surely did not have to resort to rape for romance.

Many young ladies were eager to be "friends" in order to get roles in his productions. IMHO.

Good Lord, he has created trillions in wealth and only created tens of thousands of jobs? What a failure of capitalism.

Men who abuse their position of power to coerce women into sex are no better than rapists.

What do you mean? The level playing field is federalism and democracy. The country exists to secure life and liberty for citizens. We elect reps to administer that process. Instead, those reps use that power to harrass and punish citizens in the name of more power. There is no level playing field so long as people like Warren are not held accountable for their actions. Its entirely slanted in their favor against business owners. Govt has the guns, the 3 million strong bureaucracy, the courts and the trillions of dollars to get what they want and buy the votes they need to keep them there.

It's juvenile. People talk this man up like he's one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time. But he's nothing more than a common internet troll.

You must be joking. Big business has government all but in it's pocket. How many congressmen are bought and paid for by corporate donations? Too many. How did Musk make his fortune again? Oh yeah, federal subsidies.

Warren’s problem is that they certainly don’t pay taxes commiserate with their wealth. Musk is a good example of how they accomplish this. As CEO, almost all of his compensation is in the form of stock options to avoid paying a high income tax rate. Nearly all of his hundreds of billions are locked up in the stock market. So, he has a very low tax rate except on the rare occasion he cashes in on those stocks and gets hit by capital gains.

For the most part, he lives on personal loans secured by his stocks which have a low interest rate. Personal loans are not taxable and the interest paid is tax deductible so he pays even less in taxes on the comparatively little cash income he receives. That’s how he managed to have an effective federal income tax rate of $0 in 2018.

That Musk responded to Warren is likely only the first returned shot what appears to have the potential making of a larger Twitter slap-fight. Seems to be a pretty sure bet that Warren's legions of far left supporters are going to slap back at Musk, if they haven't already. In this, Musk took their bait and is now in the middle of it, providing the distraction from Democrat's policy failures, which is what they probably wanted in the first place. It will be interesting to see if this is how it plays out.

Please study the tax code a bit more. You only have capital gains if you exercise stock options and then hold them for at least a year.

My understanding is that Musk recently exercised and then turned around and sold the shares. He thus would be taxed on these gains at ordinary income.

In your second sentence it starts and says he lives on personal loans. Do you know he is still doing this, or was that done in prior years.

What a position to be in...on the one hand, democrats are all about environmentalism, and super supportive of government forcing car companies to go increasingly electric...and on the other hand, the godfather of modern electric cars has gotten out of line.

Which is more important to the democrats, I wonder? Our planet's future? Or defending Warren?

will pay more taxes than nearly all people on earth, in the history of the earth.
Yeah...because he has all the money. You're acting like it's somehow especially virtuous of him to...follow the law? Do what everyone else does?

Of ****ing course he is going to pay a lot in taxes. He has more accumulated wealth than literally about half the worlds country's GDPs. His net worth is actually almost identical to the entire country of South Africa. How long until he becomes a trillionaire? It seems almost inevitable.

It's like praising a Baron for paying more taxes to the king than all his peasants.

Its more like extortion than bribery.

And yet again he pays more taxes then nearly all citizens. Also, how do you know what he paid in 2018? Isnt that private? What about every other year?

No its not. But Im not acting like its virtuous, Im acting like its unfair. Because it is.

Equal protection of the at-will employment laws for unemployment compensation is better and can actually solve simple poverty and generate a fiscal multiplier of two (2.0).

The founding architects gave their lives and fortunes so that we may bicker and impoverish while the Great Land goes bankrupt?
