war on terror unwinable?

...It's not your presence thats making a difference...it's the fact that if they execute a man for changing religions it'll put Afghanistan in a bigger lime light. The AP would have a field day showing how little freedom of religion there is in Afghanistan are and thats something Hamid Karzai cause that would make a bunch of Christian rights activists mad and they'd demand the Bush administration do something about it. Then Bush ( pushed by the right wing not wanting to lose the Christian vote haha ) would read his all mighty laws of the land upon the Afghanis. Trust me it's not cause of your presence.

You can't win a war on a verb.

Davo's right. He stated it quite perfectly

but if we wouldn't there, this would not have happened, there would not be a free country and the guy would be executed. Meaning, if it wasn't for us, the guy would be excuted, if not by court, by the taliban.

Now we're talking about a matter of time...your precense still doesnt change anything because the power muslim clerics wield in Afghanistan is far greater then that of any U.S. imposed goverment. The U.S. presence has done nothing but delay his execution. They have the means to kill him and the ressources the only thing that's changed is they cant do anything until he's put in the general population. What your presence has created is a false sence of security to the Afghan public. The Taliban regime might have been taken down but the same laws still apply due to the fact that they want to execute this man for changing religions. This man wont make it to the end of the year unless he's either :

A : Given citizenship in Germany

or

B : Moved under U.S. protection

Do these options indicate that your presence there has done anything to change things? No you are now forced to protect every man/woman or child who find themselves in religious trouble on a one to one basis so to speak. You can say that it has but this only shows the false sence of security that most americans have.

if that were true, he would have already been tried, found guilty, and beheaded.

The fact that even the prisoners in Afghan jails want to kill him shows how much power the muslim clerics wield. AGAIN - It's not because of your presence it's so Afghanistan isnt put into an even bigger limelight. If he wasnt so protected by the U.S. they would have got to him in an hour. You're not making a difference in the people you're making a difference through influence in the courts. Big difference.

You're not making a difference in the people you're making a difference through influence in the courts

and before we went there, we didnt even have that influence.....so my point still stands.

we are making a difference.

By not letting their legal system work? Good Job. You're one step closer to making Afghanistan a colony. :)
