Wake up House democrats

It is time House democrats faced reality. The President wants the wall money. The Senate wants the wall money. The citizens of the country want the wall money.

I don’t want the wall. Many others do not. Please don’t speak for every citizen.

Congress recently passed an $867 billion dollar farm bill. We spend billions in Iraq and Afghanistan and more billions on foreign aid. Yet, we can't spend 20-25 billion on a barrier at the border. The wall would cost about one half of one percent of the total Federal budget. That's .005%. There is no fiscal argument against the wall. There is no efficacy argument against it. There are only ideological arguments against it and that is why the Democrats oppose it. That and because it's something Trump wants.

We can spend the money, it's just a dumb thing to spend money on.

Also, it's going to be 50 billion at least, plus billions per year in upkeep forever.

Take your logic here for literally anything. Trillion dollar defense budget, can't do universal Pre-K? Can't double NASA's budget? Can't properly fund 9/11 first responders health care?

Even at $50 billion it's a bargain over the long term considering the cost of illegal immigration to taxpayers. With a wall, you do some monitoring, much of which can be done with drones and sensors. Manpower requirements will be less with a wall, not more. Upkeep is to be expected but should be minimal. A substantial barrier will need much less upkeep than corrugated metal and chickenwire.

There is no reason to believe that "a wall" is an effective or cost efficient method to secure the border. Absent any legitimate studies or even a real proposal on how it would or even could be done I can only surmise that it is just a boondoggle meant to enrich a few lucky "contractors/donors" and defraud the citizens of the U.S. out of billions of tax dollars. This has always been Trumps business model.

just a thought
let's prepare a comprehensive plan on immigration

from the way we process and identify and limit legal immigrants/refugees
to the way we have become a job magnet and how that should change
to the ways in which we construct barriers to illegal immigration

and republicans have very recently begun couching their discussion in terms of immigration law enforcement rather than 'the wall', which could portend the possibility of a discussion about something other than 'the wall'

Incorrect.

Walls work. Everyone knows this. It's why people continue to build them. Any claim to the contrary is not rooted in real world experience. The wall will save many, many times its cost. The taxpayers are already being defrauded in having to pay billions to address illegal immigration and its aftermath. Whatever we've done up to now is a consummate failure as 12-20 million illegal immigrants proves. Maybe you want illegal immigrants here. The first order of government is to protect the country and do right by its citizens. That is NOT happening when it comes to illegal immigration, either at the border or with visa overstays.

Until there is a legitimate study and a complete proposal for this mythical "wall" it is dead in the water and it should be. Have you ever even wondered why none of this has been done? We don't spend 10's of billions on "gut feelings" fed by emotionally charged rhetoric . Your fear tactics are pitiful too. Have you no shame? Illegals are actually LESS likely to commit crimes than natural born citizens.

pin cushions work. everyone knows this. it's why people continue to use them. any claim to the contrary is not rooted in real world experience. over time, pin cushions save many, many times their cost
since pin cushions work in many situations we must therefor, according to the above post, be willing to apply them everywhere because that is the 'logic' found in that above post. no mention whether it is the appropriate device to use to solve the problem at hand, just accept the notion because something works in some places we must thus conclude that such a device will work in all instances. the * pin cushion principle * just evoked, is as sound as the * wall * principle, above

Again, were is a study with stats proving the wall will do as Trump says it will ? Why are Rigties afraid of such a study ?

Heck this administration is apparently afraid to even make a proposal, never mind offer up a study to support it. Trump and his criminal administration are as far removed from governance as they can possibly be. The only people still cheering this administration are either in the employ of US adversaries, doing their bidding or just plain too scared stiff or worse to know better.

Sort of. The Senate nor the people of the USA want the wall money. It's just Donny and a handful of yahoos.

Because they know the answer.

And Democrats wanted the wall money until President Trump became President.

I feel spending 5 billion on a public works project with zero studies into its effectiveness and environmental ramifications is idiotic. I will support the funds for a study into the matter, but not a penny for the wall until the American people have all the facts.

was it specifically for 'a wall' or were those funds intended for barriers and other efforts to monitor and control access across our nation's southern border

The majority of the people do not want a wall. The majority of the people support secure borders, just not a wall. Wake up !

They were persistent and very vocal that the horde of illegals should be stopped and the border should be discouraged. And they ordered fencing/walls put up.

They were participating in another one of these pile up a bunch of Appropriations that some proponents wants on one end of a bill and pile up a bunch of policy that other proponents want on the other end of a Bill, pass it, have everybody declare victory and run home to do a bit of fund raising. It was as most of these sorts of "Lets make a Policy for Appropriations Deal" Bills are, garbage legislation which did not pass. $46B in bundled border security appropriations on one end and Immigration policy that the dems could support on the other end. All of it watered down, sloppy and slap dashed to get it done.

Once again a Bill like this if it passes is usually garbage and if it fails you are left with one set of proponents only remembering the end of the Bill that makes their rhetorical point for them. But thanks for playing.

and as the president said...Mexico should pay for it. We will wait until Mexico pays for it.

Thanks for the update.

Fact is, thousands and thousands of illegals cross into our country, causing us to spend money on them in many different ways and there is also sex and drug trafficking.
