[W:#995]Pelosi banned from receiving communion in San Francisco archdiocese over her position on abortion

prove that the funds given to PP were used for abortions....my bets are you cannot...especially since a person that gets an abortion through PP has to PAY for it.

Sigh.

He's saying he doesn't want to fully excommunicate these people because he wants to assist them in coming back to the church and it's teachings. However, while they are engaging in this behavior they are "outside the community" and can't receive communion. They aren't fully kicked out and ignored. They're just on the outs while they work on coaching them to follow the teachings of the church. That's exactly what this Archbishop did.
Where did he say that?

where does he say they cannot receive Communion? In fact, he says that Communion is for sinners, not for saints...and that he has NEVER denied Communion to anyone.

Is this the same Catholic church that turned its head when their priests were molesting little boys?

So is Pelosi getting abortions in the her 80s, or is the uber political and ignorant church now trying to control what its members *think*?

Church laws do not forbid you take Communion for sins you did not commit. A person who sins is responsible for their own sin, no one else is. If she didn't get the abortion, it isn't her sin.
No, she isn't guilty of having an abortion, she is guilty of being an accessory to other women having abortions by knowingly seeking to protect and even advance the legal framework that allows that to happen for just that purpose, all while promoting abortion as a positive good for women and piously espousing her Catholic faith as she does so.

And a woman who uses artificial birth control and continues to use artificial birth control with no intention of stopping should also not receive communion. They too are aware of their mortal sin.
It's a bit more complicated than that--nuns can use the Pill to regulate their periods, for example, because they aren't using the birth control for the purpose of preventing pregnancy--but generally speaking if using birth control is indeed a mortal sin according to Catholic teachings you are right. Women that use birth control for the purpose of preventing pregnancy would not be in a state of grace and so should not take communion. So tell me, how is the priest supposed to know that? In the case of Pelosi, her own mortal sin is widely known and she makes no pretense of repentance. This is known as creating a scandal in the Church.

question is why are so many right wing Catholics not denied Communion for supporting the death penalty?
So far as I know, supporting the death penalty isn't a mortal sin for Catholics. It would be rather difficult for them to make it one, considering God's own commandment: “And I will require the blood of anyone who takes another person’s life. If a wild animal kills a person, it must die. And anyone who murders a fellow human must die. If anyone takes a human life, that person’s life will also be taken by human hands. For God made human beings in his own image." (Genesis 9:5&6)
