[W:7068] Ron DeSantis for President 2024

I asked for your headcount of the number of women who wrote the Bible. So that's one. And that's it.

Mary, the virgin mother of Jesus.

God The Father.
Again, your fellow experts on the Bible would be the people to ask.

How about we try and focus on legislation that was overturned by the FLSC or SCOTUS that deals with Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature?
So you really don't understand how it works. Huh.

Well, the FL legislature does. That's why they write crooked laws, knowing it could take years before the SC tosses them.
Perhaps could share what legislation in FL signed by Governor DeSantis is currently under review by FLSC and/or SCOTUS.
I don't follow that stuff, but @RaleBulgarian apparently does. From his message:

An appeals court finds Florida's social media law unconstitutional
May 23, 2022 4:42 PM ET

Florida law intended to punish social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter is an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment, a federal appeals court ruled Monday, dealing a major victory to companies who had been accused by GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis of discriminating against conservative thought.

A three-judge panel of the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously concluded that it was overreach for DeSantis and the Republican-led Florida Legislature to tell the social media companies how to conduct their work under the Constitution's free speech guarantee.

Boy, you have a long list of things to do. Better get at them!
I am fine here, taking turns with @Michael Cole at holding you by the scruff.

We're bored. You make us happy.

You really should ask one of your many experts on the Bible in this thread. They claim to know it much better than me.
It's a scary question, isn't it. You wouldn't believe how many conservative Christians have fled from that simple question.

It makes the earth quiver and quake beneath your feet.

Excellent point. Afterall, per your own words, Jesus and God are both pro homosexual and pro abortion.
Yep. The Bible authors often tried to hide that, but it comes through very clearly.

No one can stop God from telling us the Truth, you know.

So you really don't understand how it works. Huh.

Nope, not a clue.
Well, the FL legislature does. That's why they write crooked laws, knowing it could take years before the SC tosses them.

So that's how it works? Interesting perspective on the subject.

About that Texas law that was the basis for the FL law on internet censorship: Has that legislation been overturned? If not, then if DeSantis is appealing the case, he might have a good chance of winning it in a higher court.

I always find the term "Conservative Christian" to be redundant. If you're a Christian, i.e. a follower of Christ, then you would "conserve" His teachings.

As I've shown in a couple of posts, Ron DeSantis has been very tactful in his criticism of Donald Trump, saying that he did a great job for 3 years and then giving an example of where he failed miserably.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/25/politics/desantis-trump-strategy/index.html

DeSantis – whose campaign raised $8.2 million in the first 24 hours, according to a campaign spokesperson – has filled the hours after his botched Twitter launch by taking his message to the familiar comforts of the conservative airwaves, where, in a dozen interviews, he has assailed Trump as fiscally irresponsible and a supporter of amnesty for undocumented immigrants. He said Trump’s Covid-19 mitigation policies “destroyed millions of people’s lives” and told Fox News his “day one” priority would be to fire the former president’s handpicked FBI director, Christopher Wray.

But DeSantis will have to hit much harder than that, else he's a weakling.... and loses.

And when he hits harder, he alienates all the Trump loyalists... and loses.

God is definitely anti-DeSantis, just like all moral and patriotic Americans.

I would think that "legal" is the common denominator between the two words.
Legality is based on constitutionality.

When a law is challenged and found to be unconstitutional, it is illegal.

Not sure why you’re having a problem understanding the simple concept.
To my knowledge, and correct me if I'm worng here, but once legislation is handed to the Governor of the State to sign off on, it becomes the law of that State until further actions invalidates it.
“Valid” (constitutional) and “in effect” are distinctions with a difference when discussing laws.

Again, not sure why you’re having a problem understanding.
I dobut that opponents really care about the Constituion.
Yours, and my own, opinions are irrelevant to the validity/unconstitutionality of any law.
Replacing my NPR reference with an older The Verge reference is poor form.

SCOTUS has kicked the van down the road for now.

Supreme Court Puts Off Considering State Laws Curbing Internet Platforms

The Supreme Court asked the Biden administration on Monday for its views on whether the Constitution allows Florida and Texas to prevent large social media companies from removing posts based on the views they express.

The practical effect of the move was to put off a decision on whether to hear two major First Amendment challenges to the states’ laws for at least several months. If the court ends up granting review, as seems likely, it will hear arguments no earlier than October and will probably not issue a decision until next year.

This means for the foreseeable future yet another another dubious DeSantis law is blocked from being in effect.

I showed the exact words that DeSantis had used in his praise and criticism of Donald Trump. CNN is using their own words. Ron DeSantis knows that he needs the Trump vote, and will be very careful about alienating them.

Since you approve of them being pro choice, I would think that you;d approve of the FF's being pro slavery.
I'm a freethinker. The FFs will have to fall where they will.

Toss out your heroes. It's the first step toward intellectual freedom. (But there are plenty more, so keep watching this space!)

Legality is based on constitutionality.

When a law is challenged and found to be unconstitutional, it is illegal.
"Challenged" is the keyword here. Most laws passed by the FL legislature and signed off by Gov. DeSantis haven't been challenged or found unconstitutional.

Why would SCOTUS ask the Biden Adminstration about a law that was temporarily overturned by a Judge in FL?
So no final decision has been made. Sounds like a plus for FL.

You might want to talk to your allies who claim that they're experts on the Bible and have them explain that one to you.
The smart set is ganging up on you?

Well, consider why.

LOL Another law that addresses a non-existent problem AND is an illegal attempt to control corporations by the State. People are kicked of social media for violating the terms of service which are agreed to by users when they sign up. AFAIK no social media company includes "viewpoint" in their terms of service and therefore no one has ever been banned for that.
From your link...
NetChoice, one of the plaintiffs in that Florida lawsuit, released a statement condemning the bill. “HB 20 has the same First Amendment flaws as the Florida law that a federal court blocked this summer. The same outcome will almost certainly occur in Texas,” said NetChoice president Steve DelBianco in a statement. So far, however, it hasn’t committed to a similar lawsuit there.

So that's how it works? Interesting perspective on the subject.
Well, it's the ... you know... normal perspective. But I'm glad you find it interesting. I guess.
About that Texas law that was the basis for the FL law on internet censorship: Has that legislation been overturned? If not, then if DeSantis is appealing the case, he might have a good chance of winning it in a higher court.
Beats me. I leave the details to Wiki.

"Challenged" is the keyword here. Most laws passed by the FL legislature and signed off by Gov. DeSantis haven't been challenged or found unconstitutional.
Do you have a running list of all FL laws signed into effect by DeSantis, and a corresponding list of those that have been challenged?

If so, please post.

If not, I’ll take your claim as a continuation of talking out of your own keister.
Why would SCOTUS ask the Biden Adminstration about a law that was temporarily overturned by a Judge in FL?
Ask SCOTUS.
So no final decision has been made. Sounds like a plus for FL.
You consider it “a plus for FL” that yet another completely bias based, dubious law signed into effect has been blocked?

Finally, we agree on something.

I always find the term "Conservative Christian" to be redundant. If you're a Christian, i.e. a follower of Christ, then you would "conserve" His teachings.
And yet you don't give all your money to the poor, as Jesus instructed.

Do you?

Or, more likely, do you engage in liberal interpretation of that passage?
