Leave it to a western liberal to parade their virtue and solidarity in the most patronizing way imaginable.
I can think of several reasons why NZ women donning the attire of a Muslim woman is a bad idea, among them:
- Its insulting and sacrilegious. If terrorists killed Maori would those women dress up as aboriginals to display their "caring"? If women Catholics or Nuns were killed should we expect kiwi's to dress in habits "in solidarity"? Or if Jews murdered, are we to suppose that kiwis will wear black hats, dark suit coats, and sidelocks (as well as a spiffy paste on beard?).
- Its primitive symbol of primitive values. The hajib is a symbol of the oppression of women. Why would any government official, or sensible member of the public, embrace the symbol of cultural and religious practices of misogyny? Why not tell women to cease driving for a month, or have an old fashioned flogging of an adulteress in the town square? Anyone up for canning women for exposing their legs? And I'm sure we are aware of the woman in Iran that was blinded and disfigured for defying the hijab code.
And in case these emotive female NZ clowns don't get it, former Muslims will tell you that the Hajib and Burka is an undisputed symbol of women as property, a non-person, not some innocent national costume to feed liberal fantasies of harmless "can't we all get along" ideology.
- So just how is social cohesion advanced by ludicrous and insensitive costuming like another religion or culture?
- No woman of Muslim background should feel intimidated to keep wearing a symbol of oppression, ESPECIALLY by clueless pubic officials who are doing them no favors by making it "normal".
Its rare that a politician manages to be insulting, patronizing, insensitive, hypocritical, misogynist and clueless in one act; Jarcinda has managed to do it.
