Southlake school leader tells teachers to balance Holocaust books with 'opposing' views

SOUTHLAKE, Texas — A top administrator with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also offer students access to a book from an “opposing” perspective, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News.
If you have a book that gives the holocaust from the perspective of a German Jew, for example, then another one would have to give the perspective of the SS officer.

Fair is fair, right?

Seems like risky guidance. What opposing views would be suitable?

It's that false equivalence that everybody's opinion is valid, rearing it's ugly head in the name of fascists.

It's ironic. Conservatives used to stand for moral absolutism. Now righties have gone full relativist, but with the catch that the loudest, most dominant ideas win, not because they're the best ideas, but simply because they dominate.

That the Jews deserved it. Hmmm...maybe we can have a thread on that.

j/k

Ironically the Palestinians also reject the holocaust. So, I guess that means an alternate viewpoint means teaching the same shit Hamas teaches.

Are you sure about any of that ^ ?

Children, today we will learn to sing a patriotic song from the Weimar Republic. It's called the Horst-Wessel-Lied or "Horst Wessel Song"
Yes, Hans, you can sing it in German for all the kids, but today we will be learning the English translation, first:

Raise the flag! The ranks tightly closed!
The SA marches with calm, steady step.
Comrades shot by the Red Front and reactionaries
March in spirit within our ranks.

Clear the streets for the brown battalions,
Clear the streets for the storm division man!
Millions are looking upon the swastika full of hope,
The day of freedom and of bread dawns!

For the last time, the call to arms is sounded!
For the fight, we all stand prepared!
Already Hitler's banners fly over all streets.
The time of bondage will last but a little while now!

... I'm not saying the Jews started it, mind. But there were terrible divisions within Germany, before the Nazis.

I hear Hitler tapped into pretty popular bigotry against Jews which was common in many parts of Europe. Just as Trump, first thing, tapped into the same bigotry here, except against Hispanics and Muslims.

Change the name to the Ashli Babbitt song.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but did SS Officers write those kind of books?
I don't know about SS officers but they could have Mien Kamph next to the Diary of Ann Frank......and maybe include books from the Flat Earth Society on the reading list in their Earth Science classes.

Republicans from the greatest generation like Bob Dole and George H. W. Bush, who fought the Nazi Axis at Great personal risk would despise this modern Republican party.

Because some darn fool who may be a republican makes a darn stupid statement it hardly befalls all republicans. In fact if you want to look for someone who takes a strange view of the holocaust look no farther than a few certain democrats in the House of Representative.

If you really want an alternative view, there is a documentary film shot by the Nazi's during the war. The allies got it after the close of the war and it pretty much makes clear what the Nazi's were doing despite what anybody might claim.

What's it called?

The entire Republican Party Is behind the banning of teaching about America's racist past. Who could not have predicted the Holocaust would be next?
