Had they done everything correctly, turning either to the left or right would have worked. I mean, they were going nearly 27 mph. But, cutting the engines, and delay, lost the steam power needed to change the tiller position to follow the command to steer to the left (turn the tiller "hard to starboard", pointing right). Had they made the command to, instead, turn to the right and still cut power, it's possible the iceberg would have passed, though not probable, IM(Surmising)O.

I was thinking that perhaps they should have turned right (North) instead left (South) so that 68 feet would be in their favor, as opposed to leading the iceberg!!!!
