From what I remember of the statistics page before the upgrade, the site was slightly more conservative.

I always find these claims rather humorous.

so do I-one poster claims to be a "centrist" and later admitted to being a socialist

socialist is hardly in the center of American politics

There was a bar graph showing this exact thing. I guess that it was discarded in the last update. I recall the most common lean is unidentified, unaffiliated, etc; followed by centrists and moderates; conservatives of varying degrees, liberals of varying degrees, and libertarians, and then everyone else.

Well, there are "centrists" who are actually "liberals" and "libertarians" who are actually "liberals", but then there are also "libertarians" who are actually "conservatives" and "moderates" who are actually "libertarians" and "conservatives" who are actually "centrists" and "liberals" who are actually "moderates", and overall it's one big clusterf*ck of somewhat confused people ascribing their own meaning to labels with ambiguous meanings to begin with.

Communist, atheist, Muslim, socialist for the destruction of America, reporting for duty.

OK, I admit, I'm really a conservative pretending to be a libertarian pretending to be a centrist pretending to be a fascist pretending to be french pretending to be a moderate pretending to be a liberal.

Not like you needed to tell us all that, it was obvious to anyone who reads your posts....

Well if you aren't really an Auzzie than you are a lying bastard.

I love how this probably wasn't intentional (...was it?)

There are specifically 9311 members as of right now. Obviously not that many people still participate. I was using the number as a reference. Even with 300 people actively participating it would still be difficult to guess where the majority of people lean.

He was referring to this.

That's what you were meant to do.

At least his purpose in life is attainable.

I was meant to to be honored and reverred by all who know me, elected a saint while still alive, rich and famous, and with hordes of nubile acolytes prostrating themselves at my feet in the throes of uncontrollable ardor.

It's been quite a burdon to bear, especially considering I have fallen somewhat short.

Lucky for you then, that you had hordes of nubile acolytes at your feet to break your fall.

You WOULD have to remind me.

I knew I should have fallen face down instead......

That being said, many neoconservatives are not "religious nutjobs", but are rather religious utilitarians. Religion can be seen as a healthy expression of the human condition and thus benefits society in numerous ways, particularly aiding societal problems that are not amenable to public policy. Fiscal liberalism is somewhat harder to argue against. Many are seen as conservative for not really siding with Democrats on public policy spending, and yet seen as too liberal for those under the belief of someone less than Nixonian, or perhaps even Reagan (where a decent amount of the time, neoconservatives were fairly comfortable domestically).

I view all religious people as nutjobs to one degree or another and I honestly see nothing good coming from it. There is nothing good that comes out of religion that cannot come equally from entirely secular sources, and I find believing in anything for which there is insufficient objective evidence inherently harmful, not only to the individual but to society as a whole. You have to remember that the modern core of the Republican party started out as expatriot southern Democrats who abandoned the party in the 60s and 70s over issues like abortion and civil rights. They're still liberals, they're just religious zealot liberals pretending to be conservatives.
