Volodymyr Zelensky and the spirit of Ukraine is TIME's 2022 Person of the Year

Perfect. This is a loss for Vladimir Poopin and guarantees everyone with a properly functioning brain knows Russia is evil.

It also is a complete turnaround from their Elon Musk mistake, which I never figured out. He probably loves Poopin.

More propaganda from the West!

This, mere magazine cover, is more powerful a weapon against Putin than any Howitzer.

The great mystery about Russia is that its people have a love/hate relationship with the west. They fear 'western propaganda but love blue jeans. They spit at anything American, but will pay double for Marlboros.

Knowing they are being excluded from anything west will bother them more and more as time goes on. When the Marlboros run out Putin will need more and more security.

FYI, Time named Putin person of the year in 2007. So were Stalin (twice) and yes, even Hitler.

your point is?

It's not an award. It notes who made the largest impact in that particular year. If I am not mistaken Hitler made the cover a few times.

Hitler was there once (1939).

My point is that I don't think it matters. As you said, it's not an award... which is what this thread appears to imply.

russians are so insecure, simultaneously defensive about their inferiority complex and yearning to adopt western culture.

They (poorly) try to imitate US TV shows, newscasts, music, books, fashion. They worship Apple smartphones and McDonalds, Converse sneakers and KFC.

Things that normal people don't even think about.

So many russians want to learn English. At the same time, so many russians are confused and suspicious whenever a westerner wants to learn russian--as if to say, why would anyone who already knows English want to learn russian?

Good question.

Those who were able to escape did so while the getting was good.

I'm glad Putin is in trouble but I don't trust Zelensky. He's been oppressive to his own people when they oppose him, he's shut down opposing voices in the government, the media and he's currrently trying to shut down the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. He sounds like plenty of other reformers who were really dictators.

No one cares.

What happened to the American Bund during WWII?

A nation at war tends not to let the enemy have free reign in their country

We are talking about his own Ukrainian people. He started this a full year prior to Putin's invasion.

It’s going to be just like the good ol’ days of the Soviet empire. Russians with access to hard currency will be able to buy all the black or grey market foreign goods they want. I mean, who cares if the branded soda or cigarettes are from Turkey or Iraq? They’ll find a way into the country.

Zelenskyy well deserves this accolade.

I would never have guessed this ability of Zelenskyy when he won the Ukraine presidency in 2019.

Some people however, perform extraordinarily well under intense pressure. Zelenskyy does this. Putin does not.

The TIME website.....

And Trump in 2016.

I read Time magazine does not require a person to be good to get the award.

It is more than that. Zelensky is able to lead millions of suffering, grieving, and abandoned people in a time of war throughout his third year on the job.

Only subscribers can read it.

Zelensky has been shutting down Russian-government-aligned political parties (i.e. traitors), and the Orthodox church he shut down was connected to the Russian government (i.e. traitors).

My advice to you is to stop consuming Russian government propaganda.
