Virginia has moved to restrict the rights of trans students in its public schools

quote

The Virginia Department of Education released its 2022 Model Policies online Friday, effectively rolling back the work of Youngkin's predecessor, Democrat Ralph Northam. The new rules will effected the more than 1 million children enrolled in the state's public school system.

The revamped rules explicitly state that students must only use bathrooms and locker rooms associated with the sex assigned to them at birth. If a student wants to participate in a sport or other extracurricular activities, they must, again, only participate in teams that align with the sex assigned at birth.

Further, the legal name and sex of a student can't be changed "even upon written instruction of a parent or eligible student" without an official legal document or court order. Teachers and other school officials can only refer to a student by their pronouns associated with their sex at birth. But they also don't have to refer to a student's preferred names regardless of paperwork if they feel doing so "would violate their constitutionally protected rights."
Virginia now joins a growing number of state legislatures across the U.S. that have adopted new restrictions on gay and transgender students. Like Virginia, these policies often limit conversations about sexuality and gender identity in schools.

Court Challenge is certain to put a cease order on this.

Are we really playing the bathroom game again?

Really?

This is about control, and that's it. It's the religious model of man as head of household, and head of community. This will effect all children and women.

Religious politicians do this people, vote this shit out. Beliefs matter, as you've been shown this year.

Coming from someone who votes for people who are afraid to say what a woman is.

I'll tell ya, MAGA men have no clue what a woman is. The rest of the country knows we're human beings who can control their own destiny and don't need laws that heard us like cattle.

I'm glad to see you've turned "Independent." Good choice! You're getting closer to the truth.

Seriously, Is am now more confused
Basically, transgender, gender identification, has been going on since the beginning of time. We didn't hear much about it because it was being suppressed by the religious. Then freedom from religious rule came, and we started hearing about it, and seeing people openly expressing it. Now, religious rule is back, so we don't see it anymore. That's pretty much it.

This is what the new governor ran on and won.

Parents in that state did not want to deal with this topic in their schools.

Parents? What about liberal, Independent, other parents? What did they want? It's a sad day when religious beliefs become law. As far as I'm concerned our constitution should protect everyone's rights to express who they are and be excepted for who they are.
Not who someones God thinks they should be.

It's not contagious, it's a lie that they win more in sports, and they've never committed any crime in any bathroom.

The governor election was in 2021. They lost.

It is what it is. This is one of the fundamental issues the new governor ran on.

What was it folks were saying not too long ago?

He’s keeping good in his campaign promises.

Imposing religious laws on a minority isn't right regardless of who wins a political race. Doesn't matter.
There wasn't a vote held on this issue, nor on abortion, these were IMPOSED.

Not really. His opponent messed up and he was able to take advantage of that. On a day-to-day basis, I doubt that the issue of transgender teens is high on the list of things that matter to them and their families.

This was his literal campaign strategy. Almost large part of campaign was based on parents pissed off at schools. (People losses at government Covid restrictions as an overarching theme)

He won the governor office with it. And YES transgender was specifically mentioned - bathrooms, names, etc.

If he mistake was saying:

I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach kids,” McAuliffe

It wasn’t a mistake - it’s a mentality held by many.

Again, how does that give him the right to impose a law that discriminates people?

I'm beginning to see there are little to no protections our country offers for children or women in this country.

The loopholes Republicans are using lately to suppress votes, and impose religious laws on children and women are shocking me. It might take a bit of time adjusting. This country certainly doesn't live up to it's name.

Just poo, nobody cares

Elections have consequences.

What would you say to conservatives that don't like Biden keeping one of his campaign promises?

If one is running on such a promise, and they win, then that means more people in that state agree than disagree.
