Oh my God, this is just sick.

The poor man has burns on 60% of his body, but otherwise his condition isn't known.

The claim so far is that it wasn't political, but I guess we'll see as the story develops. The story notes that attacks on politicians is becoming more common. What are we coming to...

That is horrifying.

Of note from the linked article:

Police said the attack "stems from a personal matter not related to the victim’s position on Danville City Council or any other political affiliation."

Yeah, I saw that earlier today. A truly horrific attack. The claim is that this was personal, not political. Not sure what sort of personal shit drives one to set another on fire. But the good news is that the dude was quickly apprehended, is being held without bond, and appropriately charged.

But I can't imagine what that councilman has to go through now.

Why? We talk about transparency all the time and then things happen and the public never finds out why.
The person who did this is a sick SOB. I don't care what the problem was I doubt it warranted being set on fire. Maybe the offender needs a punishment equal to what he dished out. So sick of violence in America and then a justice system that tends to make excuses and hand out slaps on the wrist for serious crimes and repeat offenders.

I just saw this story and allegedly he was having an affair with the guys wife.

While it's obviously a horrendous thing to do, people tend to be pretty vicious with issues like infidelity. The perps wife is lucky he didn't retaliate against her as well if the affair turns out to be true.

This is what nihilism looks like. Too many people are determined to act out their atavistic impulses….

This stinks of jealously or being jilted. Those issues are very personal.

Maybe he was having an affair with somebody's wife or girlfriend.

Damn, that’s awful.

Yeah, @SkyFox76 said he was having an affair. And I can understand how that causes all sorts of emotions, these can be volatile situations. But setting a person on fire...damn. That guy is gonna have to spend a good amount of time in prison.

Not just "somebody's" but allegedly the wife of the dude that set him on fire. Apparently she had filed for divorce 2 weeks ago.

I was just looking at Vogler's FB page and I have to say he certainly hasn't been an absent husband or father. Tons of family photos, his wife's recent birthday and their family vacation. If the affair is true, his poor wife just got signed up for a nightmare full of emotional trauma. That is, if she was completely oblivious to what was happening behind her back.

".....According to police, Buck-Hayes and Vogler knew one another. Pictures of the two together have resurfaced on social media after the attack, including one image in which Vogler's family and Buck-Hayes' family posed smiling together for a selfie.

We've also obtained court documents that show Buck-Hayes and his wife filed for divorce two weeks ago......"

Yeah this never happened before.

America BAD!

I don't think that the affair has been confirmed yet, but it would most definitely fit the reasoning for the perps anger. I guess he did tell police he meant to kill him, but IDK. If that were the case, just go in and blow his head off. This appears to me to be more about him wanting Volger to suffer.

Some people just lie on a roof and shoot politicians they don't like.

Violence is unacceptable. I can't imagine the pain the victim will go through, now and for the rest of their life.

It's leaning towards this not being about an issue with him not liking a politician, but instead it's about Volger jumping in the sack with the dudes wife. And even further it's looking like the two families were friends. IMO the pain is exactly what the goal was. A quick death wouldn't have been as rewarding to the perp.

He was friends with the guy who lit him on fire at one point until Volger started sleeping with the guys now ex-wife. At least that's the rumor.

There's photos of Volger and his attacker hanging out with each other's families.

Yeah, he is.

The actions of that man were just plain extreme.

I bet he gets a life sentence.

Fortunately for him, we live in a civilized society. Not that long ago he would have got what he gave and then some.

His name is “Shotsie?”
That's the important part to note. Thank you for doing the thankless job of finding humor in atrocity.
