Tashah,
The al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock are administered by Muslim clergy.
French churches were administered by french priests during Nazi occupation of france. This does not negate the fact that East Jerusalem and palestinian holy sites (excluding jewish westernwall and synagogues) are considered occupied territory.
When Jordan invaded Israel from the east in 1967, the IDF repulsed the Jordanians and captured Jerusalem. .
1)You know and I know that King Hussein would not join the battle and was in agreement with the Israelis on his occupation of the palestinian west bank and East Jerusalem as was his father and grandfather before him.
2) Israel started the war and launched it's blitzkreig in 67.
3) Jordanian troops on the ground fought against the Israeli troops in the west of Jerusalem against the orders of Hussein and the Israelis, who shelled and beseiged the city.
What the IDF discovered was shocking. The Jordanians had set up public urinals that faced the Wailing Wall, which is the holiest site in Judaism. The IDF cleared the Wailing Wall and the plaza which fronts it.
I did not know that, and I agree with you that it is wrong. I would like you to provide me with a link that I can examine and learn more about this urinal situation. Where were the exactly placed? This is un-islamic and dishonorable and I hope to read up on this some more. Please help me out here by providing a link with elaboration.
Such wanton religious disrespect is one of the reasons Jerusalem will remain Israeli
1) Religeous disrespect is right and goes both ways. You neglect the demolition of hundreds of mosques and churches in the land captured by Israel in 1948, and this:
On June 7, 1967, Israel occuped east jerusalem and demolished the mughrabi neighborhood in the old city ajacent to the al-aqsa haram and the wailing wall. 135 houses, two mosques, and two zaouias were demolished.
2)Occupation of the future palestinian capital, Demolition of native homes and evictions, Judaization of the city and insistance that it remain eternally zionist occupied will never end the conflict.
3) Palestinians in 67 occupied east jerusalem are not granted citizenship, they are granted blue jerusalem occupation IDs (second class, but better than the green west bank IDs) While those holding these IDs are allowed freedom of movement, they are rarely allowed permits to construct or reconstruct their homes in Jerusalem, many have their ID's suspended and withdrawn and are deported deeper east to the west bank bantustans or to Gaza. My Jerusalem ID and my Father's were taken from us. We paid thousands of dollars and hired lawyers. I waited from midnight to the next morning slept on the sidewalk of the Israeli interior ministry in Salahudeen street in east Jerusalem to be one of the provilaged thirty allowed to enter and talk to an Israeli official that day. We paid thousands of dollars to an Israeli lawyer. Got the IDs back, and had them taken from us the next year at the border. Our choice was to either move out from Jerusalem and reside east of the confiscation wall in the west bank ghetto, or request to live in the Gaza prison. We are lucky to be American citizens however, and they give us hell every time we cross even though we are americans.
This is true, but Jenin neglects to mention a few things. The Australian was neither Israeli nor Jewish, and was a mentally disturbed tourist. Here are a few pertinint excerpts from palestinefacts.org
Im amazed why this man was probably not stopped for 4 to 6 hours at the Israeli controlled border like arabs are. Here is a criminal that was probably granted easy access. Racial profiling can be understood only from your pov. Put yourself in my shoes (this is also a response to you from the palestine trip post).
These supposed 'tunnels' were in fact ancient Roman aqueducts being investigated by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). After Muslim complaints, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin ordered that the tunnel opening be sealed. Since then, there has been no digging in the direction of the Temple Mount and there are no plans to do so. Muslim religious and academic scholars rewrite the city's history. They deny the existence of the first and second temples in Jerusalem, and even argue that the mosques on the Temple Mount preceded the presence of Judaism in Jerusalem.
And what about the tunnel dug by Nitenyahoo in '96? Palestinians have requested a complete cessation of all tunnel digging around and under their holy sites, they have a right to be fearful.
Palestinians argue that our father abraham (or his children/decendants) built al-aqsa. He was not a jew, he was a believer in the One God. It does not matter whether the temples existed or not, it only matters to those who wish to see a destruction and reconstruction atop our muslim holy sites.
No occupation. Jordan attacked and lost the city. If one examines the topological maps that are part and parcel of the Israel/Jordan Peace Treaty, the city of Jerusalem is located in Israel proper and the city is not bifurcated in any manner whatsoever. It is Israeli.
The 1967 war began with an Israeli blitz. Jordan's King signed over his occupation rights to the Israelis.
UN resolution 242 preceeds Hussein's handover of rights. The west bank and East Jerusalem were never his property anyways. They were given to his fathers by Imperial britain and zionist-hussein and father map drawings and agreements.
What Jews? Designed? Where are the plan schematics? Prepared? Are the construction materials on-site? No? I didn't think so
I apologize. I meant jewish and evangelical extremists. There are plans and blueprints as I am sure you know and are certain construction materials. Not on site yet, to the dissmay of the extremists.
The Israeli people, in majority are against these plans but you know that settlers, khanists, lieberman and his crew, and other zionist expansionists want to do just that. Palestinians are rightly fearful.
In kind, Jewish homes in Gaza were confiscated by Fatah and apportioned to high-ranking Fatah leaders. Synagogues were demolished
You mean emptied jewish settlements. Settlements that were constructed atop confiscated palestinian land and ruins. Occupation of Gaza was no longer feasible and so they withdrew only to accelerate the west bank bantustan project, confiscation wall and settlement expansion.
So it is not in kind. It is not a parallel circumstance.
