Sharia Compliant Church's Chicken in my home town went out of business this week. It was once very popular but when I and some of my friends spread word that Church's is a sharia compliant resturant franchise thier customers left in droves. A small victory indeed but it sends a message that the people of my town will not tolerate islamic supremacist businesses like this in our town.

Man I sure do love Texas.......SgtRock :rock

You arn't familer with Churches Chicken? It was originally based out of Austin Texas. They are now financed only by a Sharia Bank, Atlanta-based Arcapita Inc. Spread the word, don't eat at Church's.

An islamic supremacist.....chicken restaurant?

What does sharia compliant chicken even mean? And how could it be a bad thing?

This thread confuses me

Its not good when you can only finance a Churches franchise through a sharia bank, agreed?

Are you seriously boycotting a company because it's owned by peaceful, law-abiding people who happen to adhere to the strictures of the Muslim faith? That's not a good look, Sarg.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcapita#Compliance_with_Sharia said:
Every investment made by Arcapita Bank and its subsidiary corporations is approved by a four-member Sharia advisory board. The board includes a retired judge from Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court, and religious scholars from Pakistan and Bahrain. In accordance with Islamic Sharia law, the company does not invest in any businesses which offer credit or charge interest, or sell pornography, alcohol, or pork products.
According to representatives of the company, the Sharia advisory board does not make decisions about the financial merits of investments, and does not play a role in hiring or promotion of employees.

I love Churches Chicken, and now I love it even more.

Spread the word, eat more Churches Chicken.

McDonalds serves Halal chicken nuggets. Are you going to boycott them next for being tools of Islamic oppression? Still, it is amusing that you actually are proud of taking down a restaurant because it doesn't mix pork or booze with its chicken. All you really did was deprive your town of a good place to eat and made the rest of us look bad.

Oh - I thought it was some islamic equivalent of kosher or something, and didn't see why that would upset you.

As for the sharia bank - unless the bank funds terrorism I don't really care what its owners/management believe. The wikipedia article for Arcapita says the following

In accordance with Islamic Sharia law, the company does not invest in any businesses which offer credit or charge interest, or sell pornography, alcohol, or pork products.

Not investing in businesses it finds objectionable is fine by me. All it does is harm their business. If they don't harm anybody else I don't see any reason to get worked up about it

What exactly is a "Sharia compliant" restaurant, and how exactly does it impose its "Islamic supremacy" upon your neighborhood?

Seriously, you call this a "small victory", but I don't see any conceivable way that it constitutes any victory at all.

Oh, and congratulations for putting some of your neighbors out of their jobs.

I think sharia compliant means they properly clean your chicken and bless it.

Well, it might have sounded like such a good thing for you, your friends and all the people you were able to drive away, but I wonder if the people that owned the franchise were just regular Americans that you helped put out of business?

Check this story out - it must not affect Arcapita that much, they are bankrupting their own restaurants.

The Beasleys owned a Church’s Fried Chicken franchise. They planned to offer breakfeast dishes, including pork and bacon. But, once Arcapita acquired Church’s, Arcapita’s strict sharia compliance requirements were foisted upon the Beasley’s and they were restricted from selling the breakfast items. They say this is the reason their business failed and that they were driven to bankruptcy. They lost everything, including their home, as a result.

Rejecting business for religious reasons is a stupid thing to do, but I sorta doubt that not being able to sell pork at a chicken restaurant is "the reason their business failed and that they were driven to bankruptcy" or that "They lost everything, including their home, as a result [of not being able to sell pork at a chicken restaurant]"

Actually they started in San Antonio.

In Short – Church's Chicken first opened in 1952 across the street from the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, selling only fried chicken. Today, the restaurant has locations across the U.S., and offers a variety of Southern specialties. In addition to fried chicken, the menu features Crunchy Tenders (white-meat chicken strips) and Texas Chicken: a half chicken with char-grilled flavored seasonings. Sides include Honey Butter Biscuits, Jalapeno Cheese Bombers, mashed potatoes with gravy and fried okra.

I know, sounds like sort of a red-neck thing to do.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like that would have kept them from having a successful restaurant. The story seems to allude that they felt they were being discriminated by the Bank because they were black.

The point being that other than Muslims own many of these Churches, so putting them out of business is just hurting the franchise owners and the people that worked there, most likely Americans. Not a very nice thing.

I dunno; the one a block from my house is still open.
And I think there are a dozen of them in town.
Who cares if it's "Sharia compliant"?
There are tons of kosher restaurants in town.
Should we boycott them too, because they're "Jew compliant"?
Food is food, and the slaughter of sentient beings for human consumption is the slaughter of sentient beings for human consumption.
I'd never eat at Church's, but not because it's "sharia compliant', whatever that means.
Where the hell are you living, anyway, that it would be good business sense for a fast food restaurant to advertise itself as "Sharia compliant"?
Small-town Texas?
Let me guess: the owners of the franchise outlet are middle-eastern in appearance, so you assume their restaurant is somehow "anti-American".
And now you've run them out of business. Good job.
They still probably have a lot more money than you do, though.
All you've accomplished is, now you've got one less take-out chicken place in town.

:2wave:

I certainly support a person's right to patronize whatever company they choose. Personally, I don't "get" the reasons given but whatever.

Sounds like a bunch of morons got a resturant closed down for no good reason.

Idiots. Obviously this is anti-Capitalism and economically desctrutive.

I frankly don't believe the OP... but if it's true, then it's sad.

AFAIK, Shariah compliant is just the hyper-political way of saying their food is halal, which is actually a good thing. Halal meat is much better quality than what you'd find at KFC. Aside from the animal being killed more humanely, its upbringing is more healthy, free of chemicals, and where the meat is processed is spic and span. You did a disservice to your community... you increased unemployment, shut down a restaurant that others surely enjoyed, and perpetuated hateful thinking, all through a propaganda campaign.

Your hate knows no bounds, but what can we expect from sheer and utter ignorance.

how was the place "sharia compliant"?

The place might have closed down but I highly doubt it is because of Sgt. Rock's actions.
BTW I had Church's chicken the other day and it was pretty darn good cooked and served mostly by Mexicans.
