The presidency of Colombia was won by a reported progressive candidates, and the left expanded in France ending a majority for the neo-liberal president Macron (who earlier happily beat the far-right candidate, who had narrowly beat the left candidate to be in the top two).

Progressive candidate Lulu is the front-runner in Brazil, following corrupt right-wing government. What this means is stronger support for democracy and better economics.

A terrorist is elected president and you claim its a win for democracy.

M-19 laid down their arms decades ago, so yes, it IS a win for democracy, showing that abiding by ceasefires and negotiating works to produce a fair and justice result.

Yes, left-wing countries are renowned for their economic success.

Hmmm,

How did the Right do in the French election?

Taking the idiotic left/right dichotomy to South America and Europe is just a bit disturbing.

That's not the story coming out of France, though; the far-right National Rally party also made significant gains. Both far-left and far-right made gains, eroding the center. Macron is going to have a hard time cobbling together a governing coalition, or at least one that he prefers.

“Fringe candidates gaining traction worldwide”

“Moderates losing ground in global power”

Gee…stated otherwise, what could possibly go wrong?

Columbia and France are two countries that no one should ever model governments after.

Once the DEA got its act together, it was called upon by Columbia to get rid of thousands of drug cartel assassins.

As for France... any country with alleged state-of-the-art armed forces and the great but pitiful and highly flawed Maginot line that surrenders to an inferior army (in numbers) should be deeply ashamed.

The US had to pull France out of 2 world wars and Vietnam for God's sakes. If not, they wouldn't be there today. Then there is the matter of keeping them from bankruptcy.

There's a war that France had to pull the US out of - one with Britain in the 1770s and 80s.

And it's not like the US did much to help from the first 3 years of WWI.

France in the years leading up to WW2 was bitterly polarized, kinda like the US today.

The new Colombian President spent two years in jail from being in a left-wing group, the country has had civil war against left-wing groups for 50 years. The percent of Colombians who eat three meals a day has declined 10% to 70%; 40% live in poverty and crime is on the rise. It's their first left president.

Mandela was called a terrorist, too. And what the hell do you think the Sons of Liberty were?
"A terrorist was elected president! You call this a win for democracy?!"

Damn, guess he is principally opposed to the Revolutionary War then too. Damn.

Macron is NOT a fringe candidate.

But regarding Columbia, far right and the neoliberals losing to the leftist candidate is definitely a good thing.

If the only thing you can think of to say about a French election in 2022 is some jingoistic nonsense about wars fought generations ago, then maybe remain silent.

Macron lost his majority, yes?

Macron lost his majority, yes?
Yes, but he still has a plurality. And he lost it to the left because he is insanely unpopular in France. He only won because everyone hated Le Pen more. You can see exit polling that the vast majority of Macron voters report voting against Le Pen and not for Macron. Neoliberal centrists like Macron and Joe Biden are struggling to maintain support.

You mean Lula da silva?

You’d have to wonder what, if anything, this means for the US midterms. Pissed off leftists can vote for far left parties in countries like France. In America, there’s no one for them to vote for. Biden did well with the anti-Trump vote in 2020. Don’t think that will work this time round.

Primary season for POTUS should be a wild ride, I imagine.

Problem in the US is you have almost half of Democrats wanting progressives, a slight majority of Democrats wanting 'centrists', and they seem to have slightly more than the Republicans who are mostly crazed, and independents seem about split down the middle. Democrats can elected 100 progressive members in the House, but not much else.
