The US spends a God awful bunch of money, and the aggregate GDP of Europe is on a par with that of the USA. The USA believes Germany likes the US being in Germany, polling shows they do not. Besides the billion dollar pipeline deal with Russia, Germany consistently is in economic surplus with the USA.

In short, they are taking advantage of us and it’s time to make some changes.

No NATO nation "pledged to spend 2%". That is a lie. They said they would "AIM" to spend 2% by 2024. Trump is sending many of those troops to nations that spend a lower % than Germany too. You also underestimate the value to the U.S of a Europe allied with the U.S. against a common enemy..Russia.

While the Readiness Action Plan seeks to address the immediate security concerns stemming from an acute and evolving crisis in NATO’s immediate vicinity, the 2 percent pledge is meant to address a more structural problem in the alliance: underfunding. The summit declaration stipulates:

Allies currently meeting the NATO guideline to spend a minimum of 2% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defence will aim to continue to do so. . . .

Allies whose current proportion of GDP spent on defence is below this level will:

halt any decline in defence expenditure;

aim to increase defence expenditure in real terms as GDP grows;

aim to move towards the 2% guideline within a decade with a view to meeting their NATO Capability Targets and filling NATO’s capability shortfalls.1

Maybe so but this is not about protecting Europe anyway. It is about weakening our alliances to please Putin. Putin would much rather face individual countries than a united front.
