Veterans' charities reportedly receive fraction of money raised by Trump event | Fox News

More than two months after Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump claimed to have raised $6 million for veterans' charities at a fundraiser held on the eve of the Iowa caucuses, most of the organizations targeted to receive the money have gotten less than half of that amount.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a survey of the 22 groups listed by Trump's campaign as prospective recipients for the money, reported that 19 organizations had obtained a total of $2.4 million from Trump's foundation or associates.

Of the three other charities, one declined to disclose how much it had received, another said it needed to submit more paperwork before receiving any money, and the third didn't respond to questions by the Journal.
Trump needs to demand accountability for the money, and where it is going.

(throwing away my glasses, because I have seen it all now)

Yes, I agree with you...a communist.

If Trump is going to say he did it, then he needs to PROVE he did it.

I guess I missed the part where they discuss communism.

And of those veteran's charities how much really finally falls into the hands of veterans? Probably pennies.

Everyone is a liar or a leech grabbing all they can shove in their pockets.

He needs to demand accountability from... himself? :D

As someone highly suspicious of Trump, I suspect there isn't much to this. The organization may have received pledges of $6 million, that does not mean they have collected $6 million yet.

I also do get the impression that he does usually care about his charity work.

Do you really think Trump manages the charity? Don't be silly.

A bit off topic but does anyone have any information on the Clinton Global Initiative. They are not listed in Charity Navigator and I can not tell how much money is spent where it is supposed to be spent.

In my view, The Frump is very well-established as a liar and a thief. I'm also very suspicious of a lot of the charities for wounded veterans. To be blunt, I don't see why the EFF a wounded vet should need to rely on charity for a god damn thing.

I was hoping my clear thinking had rubbed off on American and opened his eyes, but apparently not.

I think that money tends to stick to him in ways that it shouldn't, that he has a long history of defrauding his business partners, defrauding customers, and extremely shady practices.

Visbek might be correct, and it hasn't been collected. But I would be equally unastonished to find that he just kept it.

7 April, 2016: The Veterans Affairs–scandal headlines speak for themselves. The Daily Beast: “Veteran Burned Himself Alive outside VA Clinic”; azfamily.com: “Dead veterans canceling their own appointments?”; New York Times: “Report Finds Sharp Increase in Veterans Denied V.A. Benefits,” “More than 125,000 U.S. veterans are being denied crucial mental health services,” and “Rubio, Miller ask committee to back VA accountability bills.” Are these headlines from 2014, when the VA scandal broke? The sad answer is no. All these headlines — and so many more — are from the past ten days, a fact that also speaks for itself....

Some significantly wounded veterans do require additional help, because we are often trapped into government healthcare for provision of those services. Groups like Wounded Warriors are indeed scammy, but others do good work trying to make up the gaps, or help out in other ways. Building wheelchair ramps to your house, for example, or providing things like family counseling.

Look, I get you're a Trump hater; but you're going to need to show how he's behind this. I haven't made up my mind about who I support yet, but no one has produced proof he's stealing the money.

It was his event, and his organization is responsible for collecting and distributing the funds. He would basically be investigating his own organization. That's why Fox is trying to pin it on him, and why one of Trump's campaign spokeswomen said "we are continuing to distribute the money raised as it comes in and we are expanding the list of groups receiving contributions." (Emphasis added).

Because the VA cannot do everything and anything for wounded vets or their families.

Many charities are listed with orgs like Charity Navigator, in which case you can easily see how much they spend on overhead, how much on programs, and so forth.

I'm reluctant to mention this, but I want to make a point:

A couple of years ago in my gubmint job, I interviewed a severely wounded vet who lives a few miles from my house. It was part of a longitudinal study, so I met with him a few times. On one of those occasions, he mentioned that he would be going into the hospital for some work the next week. Back then, I was still walking OK myself, and since I knew from our conversations that he wouldn't let me help him, I decided I'd go out to his property (a beat-up trailer on a dumpy lot) and clean it up some. Only took me about an hour, although a lot more could have been done.

My thought is that people in this gentleman's position shouldn't need to depend on a charitable organization, with its overhead and potential for fraud. What the heck is wrong with the neighbors that they can't do something?

Bankrupting? Yes. Fraud? Not that I know of. I haven't seen any indications of illegal activity.

I'd also say that you are accusing him of embezzling funds from a charity event for veterans, when he's trying to run for President. That sounds highly unlikely. It is much more likely they haven't received a lot of the pledged funds and/or are a bit behind on distributions.

Look, I get you're a Trump hater; but you're going to need to show how he's behind this.

I'm not a Trump hater. I loathe what the movement stands for, and have identified the cogent portions of the political philosophy that he and they articulate as the key elements in proto-fascism, but I think the man himself is probably a fairly lonely, sad story.

That being said, I didn't state "Oh, Trump stole the money", I stated that I think that the notion that he kept it is a plausible alternative, as it fits with the behavior we have seen from him in the past. The man took money intended for 9/11 victims, for cripes sake. I don't have proof that he took the money intended for veterans, I merely wouldn't be at all surprised (given that it hasn't gone to them) to find out that that's where it went.

I haven't made up my mind about who I support yet, but no one has produced proof he's stealing the money.

 it would just be one more incident to add to the list, though agreeably a somewhat odious one.

No indications? He's currently being sued for fraud. He has a history of fraud that stretches back decades. The man has a long history of waiting for contractors to fulfill their part of a deal, refusing to pay the full price agreed upon, and betting that they will write off the losses as a cheaper option than taking him to court. It's how he does business.

I'd also say that you are accusing him of embezzling funds from a charity event for veterans, when he's trying to run for President. That sounds highly unlikely.

Yeah. So does a leading presidential candidate urging his supporters to engage in physical violence, commenting on the physical attractiveness (or lack thereof) of his opponents and their spouses, or baselessly accusing people of criminal collusion and vote-rigging. Welcome to the 2016 Primary, where in Trumpland, it seems, all those rules about how "civil society" works go by the wayside.

But I'm not accusing him. I'm saying I won't be surprised if it turns out that's what happened, and now that it's hitting headlines either A) they rush to try to cobble together some cash, B) they deny that it ever happened and threaten to sue the networks or C) they threaten to sue the veterans groups. All of it would just be par for the course at this point.

this isn't just trump this is most charity drives.

they have a huge charity golf tournament here and it was supposed to have raised millions
of dollars for charity. yet the charity received less than 1m dollars.

people paid thousands of dollars to play and there were some professions there they could play with.
I guess they had to pay for those people then they had these expensive gift bags that cost even more money.
it was a laughing stock it was all over the news.

this isn't a shock as this happens all the time. the funds received to go help pay for the event and other expenses.
then it seems like what is left over goes to charity. for me it is really wrong but eh.

We as in her and Trump? Come on!

I guess you need it explained to you simply, then...OK

1. You are the one that put your leaning as being Communist.

2. I agree with what you said in your ini8tial post of this thread.

3. That means I am agreeing with a communist, of which you are one...right?

4. I seldom if ever, agree with any communist about anything.

There, does that eliminate your confusion?
