Verdict reached in CIA leak trial of Lewis 'Scooter' Libby

A verdict is reached and the results are to be read in 15 minutes. I'll post more as the news comes.
Jurors reach verdict in CIA leak case - Yahoo! News

I'm still chuckling over this one:

This trial is going to show Cheney for the sneaky, lying, son of a b!tch that he is.
I love it. The infighting and the lying within the White House will be exposed. Life is good.

Hopefully, aps will have the openmindedness to admit she was wrong.

Depends on the verdict. It is no secret that Fitzgerald will try to "flip" Scooter against Cheney in return for a lighter sentence, if he is found guilty.

Guilty.

Now, we'll see about the rest.

This isn't surprising. The only people surprised were the Bush apologists that have the wool pulled over their eyes. However, I still kinda feel sorry for Libby. He had to take the fall for Cheney....and GWB will pardon him in the end, so I don't see him flipping on Cheney.

So much for restoring honor and integrity to the whitehouse.

Now comes the tricky part.

Fitzgerald will try to flip Libby to get to Cheney. Don't know whether he can do that. On one hand, Libby did try to make a case that the White House was throwing him to the wolves in order to save Rove, which won't earn him any points with Bush. On the other hand, he could be hoping for a pardon, and he would shut up in return. If Bush does issue the pardon during the time Fitzgerald is trying to flip him, that would be obstruction of justice. Because of this, Fitzgerald will keep trying to flip until Bush leaves office. If this is the scenario that plays out, then Libby is toast.

That would be interesting if that really happened though I doubt it would. Libby convicted in a court of law in a trial connected to the white house and receives a Presidential pardon.

Don't be surprised. I think that the only reason that Libby hasn't cut a deal is that he has been assured by Cheney that it will be taken care of. Do I know that as a fact? No.....but when the pardon comes, we will all know the true story here.

I can't wait to hear Stinger and all the other Bush apologists reaction to the verdict. Somehow I expect that they will claim that the jurors are stupid...or something to that effect....they'll have some excuse....just wait and see.

You know, Libby might actually have an out here. The verdicts were reached with 11 jurors, because one of them was dismissed for watching TV news opinion during the trial, and indicated a bias against Libby. If the dismissed juror talked to the others about this, then the verdicts could be thrown out on appeal. This would not be a great thing for Republicans, who then might end up with a repeat of the trial during the 2008 campaign. Although Libby, until the next verdict, would still be considered innocent, Americans would still remember today, and the guilty verdicts, which could compromise the campaigns of a few Republicans.

Libbey was convicted.

Yawn.

At least he didnt demand a recount.

This is nothing but "gotcha" politics..........I just hope the president pardons him like "Slick Willie" did on his last day in office with Rich and all the scum he pardoned.....It would serve no purpose to send this man to jail........

Do you REALLY think the American People will remember any of this in 2008?

1) Yea, a clothcoat Republican prosecutor got him - Libby's a$$ is in his briefcase. :rofl

2) Bush can't pardon him while Fitzgerald is trying to flip him, without committing obstruction of justice, which is what undid Nixon.

3) Fitzgerald will continue his efforts to flip Libby until Bush leaves office. Unless he flips and implicates Cheney, Libby is toast.

Well I hope your wrong.....I think the real person that should have been on trial here is Joe Wilson........

Do you think his sentence will be as severe as Bill Clinton's or Sandy Berger's?

They thought Ollie North would cave, too.

My dream is that it would serve as a warning to others about dragging the intelligence community into politics. Our professional intelligence community should be insolated from political in fighting. We rely on their on there unbiased judgment to make our most important decisions. They should fear no retribution for telling truth to power.

The CIA Leak: Plame Was Still Covert
Newsweek
Feb. 13, 2006 issue

...special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald found that Plame had indeed done "covert work overseas" on counterproliferation matters in the past five years, and the CIA "was making specific efforts to conceal" her identity, according to newly released portions of a judge's opinion.

That doesn't stand up to what the CIA itself said in asking for the investigation nor does it stand up to the logic of the events that unfolded. As of a few minutes ago, we have legal proof she was not just a typist.
