CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Tuesday he had ordered a “revision” of diplomatic relations with the United States and would announce new measures in the next few hours.

Maduro was responding to comments made earlier on Tuesday by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who gave his support to Venezuela’s opposition and called Maduro a “dictator with no legitimate claim to power.”

Now, early yesterday a group of national guard attempted to mount an insurrection against the government, it failed, but it has seemingly renewed protests against the government.

The failed Narco State of Venezuela, I doubt will collapse soon, the reason is that when a country has reached this point, the illicit activities and what remains of the oil revenue, Maduro is plundering to keep the army and police on side and the population that is still left in Venezuela, who knows whether they have the strength or numbers to overcome them.

The Generals are all paid off with oil, drug and other illicit money and are unlikely to bite the hand that feeds them.

I like what Pence had to say here, minus maybe the akward Hola in the beginning, dunno why Trump couldn't make such a statement.

And I have to say, it's pretty laughable Maduro will announce "New Measures", what in the world does that mean?

His country is completely broken, what does he have to use to enact a "measure" against anyone?

Maybe because despite his failings and bad policy he is a human being unlike the president.

Maduro needs to keel over and die.

He's continued the destructive legacy of Chavez which has turned Venezuela into a dumpster fire of poverty, hyper-inflation and near-famine.

It is the USA that has caused Venezuela to be broken. Suborning terrorism, Sanctons, embargoes, weaponized banking, weaponized currency, weaponized trade (Citgo) the usual. Like Chavez before him, Maduro is elected. The Venezuelans lean socialist and the USA will do anything to make socialists look bad. Socialism is for people, Corporatism if for, You guessed it, Corporations protected by Citizens United, not by the will of the People. The Oligarchs in the USA will do anything to make Venezuela fail so they can get their dirty dickskinners on that OIL, don't ya' know?

This is ludicrous, America didn't force Chavez to implement the insane economic policies he did that eventually broke the Bolivar currency and the economy.

And Chavez wasn't even the only one, even governments prior to his, squandered the oil wealth by overextending their social spending and implementing import substitution policy without a plan to ease off of it and diversify the economy.

What happened in Venezuela is extremely complex, but make no mistake, the government broke it, completely, with their own stupidity, it could have been the richest country in Latin America, how do we know this?

Because it was, there were problems, it was very unequal, but now, it's completely broken.

As much as I’d like to see Maduro gone, I’d hate to see the US meddle in the affairs of Latin American countries in the past, always on the side of far right wing despots like Pinochet, and the results were unspeakably bad. Pinochet, for one, conducted a reign of terror, all in the name of obliterating evil leftism. He failed.

Not everyone knows how to say Hello in Spanish.

Venezuela collapsed because of the global oil price change in 2014. Not because of socialism. PRICE fixing utterly demolished any chance of a come back thanks to Maduro. The real issue here is what was price fixed - basically everything, even toilet paper.

The country is a lawless wasteland.

Disagree. Socialism caused Venezuela to be broken. Chavez nationalized oil, banks, and different manufacturing sector's and then his corrupt crony central planners ran those industries into the ground.

The Govt mismanagement of their Manufacturing base led to Venezuela being highly dependent on imports for even the most basic necessities and when the price of oil led to revenues shortfalls, the Venezuelan Govt started printing to make up the difference

They figured since the face value of their currency was more than the cost to print new currency, they could simply print new money and earn a profit of each new Bolivar.

It's called " Seignorage", and no Govt is stupid enough to try it on any substantial scale, except for Venezuela

Thing is importers do not want to be paid with worthless Bolivars, and that led to the.l crippling shortages we see today

That's nonsense. Chavez Nationalized Venezuela's major industries, and then ran them into the ground.
Because of this, the Govt became increasingly dependent on even the most basic necessities, and when the price of oil dropped, they started printing to make up for lost oil revenues.

This led to crippling shortages because importers don't want to be paid worthless Bolivars.

Venezuela put all their eggs in one basket, and that basket was oil. There's more to it then simply claiming "socialism."

If Maduro had any honor for his country and its people, he would step down. He's leading a sinking ship to the bottom of the ocean.

They nationalized every major industry, and Banks too, and then Central planner's ran those industries into the ground, becoming totally dependent on a oil industry that was also highly mismanaged

Sorry, it had everything to do with Socialism

What... are they going to start hating us even more now?

No, it did not. Venezuela decided to be anti-market, and socialism does not equate to anti-market. In economics, capitalist economies are driven by capitalists, socialist economies are driven by social groups. Socialism does not have to be coupled with price fixing, and capitalism can be coupled with price fixing. The issue here is that the state, instead of trying to fix the issues of poor folks in venezuela, simply decided to ignore market conditions and fix prices so poor people could afford things. Like toilet paper.

This issue in Venezuela is about markets and price; not who owns the production. If it were a capitalist economy and they fixed the prices the exact same outcome would have happened.
