Just think.

The ultimate goal of the kook left here in the US is for full blown socialism. Now, you would think the kooks would learn a few things from all the other failures of socailism around the world. But no. They won't.

The left has a learning disability. LMAO

I don't think liberals want socialism...they just want all the rewards of being rich, without having to work for it. They want Mother Government to just hand it over to them because I'M ENTITLED TO IT BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE A 'RIGHT' DAMMIT!

We want Liberalism, hence the name. None of what you are talking about.

then why do the politicians you elect continually vote for socialist policies?

just be honest. you want free stuff, and you don't want to work for anything. this is why we called you 'entitled'. try some personal responsibility, step 1 is to learn what you're actually voting for on the off chance you don't actually just want free stuff.

I am interested. Give us the proper list then, please.

Modern Liberalism is all about equality of opportunity not outcome, and the promotion of both positive and negative freedoms.

So, how does the welfare state manage the equality of opportunity in this manner?

With government programs, like public schools and subsidized university, colleges, and trade schools. Give everyone an equal chance at having a full life, your parents wealth or social status should not govern what you can and cannot do in society. This differs form socialism because socialism strives for equality of outcome. Liberalism believes that equal opportunity should exist but if people choose to forego it, that is their problem. Another way this is provided is by positive freedoms like the right to vote, and the right to legal representation.

I don't think I've ever heard a more vacuous line of gobbledygook in my entire life. Thanks for the laugh. :lamo

Clearly you have never studied political science or looked at politics outside the US. Modern Liberalism is based on the political philosophy of John Stuart Mill who expanded on John Locke's concept of Liberalism.

And which countries in the world utilize this limited idea of equality of opportunity and go no further?

I'm curious: In your ideal world, how do you believe that people would acquire the motivation, research skills and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate their way through all the political spin and rhetoric, so as to discover what they're "actually" voting for (let alone deciding what's best for them and their country!), if they can't afford a decent education?

Says you.

Says Wikipedia and my textbooks.

Yeah, so? Wikipedia is written by the anonymous public at large, and your textbooks are likely written by leftist ideologues, and hysterical....er....historical revisionists.

How about John Stuart Mill's own books? The thing about Wikipedia though is that almost everything is cited, and especially things like the article on John Stuart Mill are heavily cited form scholarly articles. Do you believe there is some grand-Leftist conspiracy to rewrite the philosophy behind the ideology?

That and I love when they say they don't want equal outcomes just equal opportunity.

This is a load of crap because the only way they can give us all equal opportunity is to reduce us all to the lowest common denominator.

In 30 years after having to work hard for their success, because it wont come from the empty promises of liberals, you'll see all of those above registered as Republicans.

Other people's money isn't quite the same when you're the other people.

Maybe you can answer the question I asked QuadpolarNutjob:

None of those things are socialist. Heck, in the UK we had free university under Thatcher! Minimum wage isn't socialist either.

Modern American liberalism has destroyed more of America than it has helped. Which is the goal of leftists. Overload the system, destroy families, create chaos, collapse the economic system so they can rebuild it into a Venezuela style socialist cesspool.

That's how the kooks define "equality."

Just as a linguistic point: If one's going to try to use archaic English style one ought to at least get it right. Ye is the second person nominative case for "you." So the title of this thread translated would read "You Doom Comes." Grammatically incorrect. The correct form of the second person possessive pronoun is "thy." The title should, therefore, read "Thy Doom Cometh." But, if one really cared about form, it'd be better to steer completely away from trying to look erudite with these archaicisms. For one thing, there's this sort of error which destroys the entire effect. For another it often just looks pretentious and, well, silly.

All that aside, the issue of student debt in an era of skyrocketing education costs is a serious one. It would be pretty silly for the right to dismiss the idea of debt-free university. It's already alienated the vast numbers of people under 30 for multiple reasons but to slap down this idea for that group and the ones coming behind them would be politically lethal.
