Venezuela Is Falling Apart

When a Venezuelan entrepreneur we know launched a manufacturing company in western Venezuela two decades ago, he never imagined he’d one day find himself facing jail time over the toilet paper in the factory’s restrooms. But Venezuela has a way of turning yesterday’s unimaginable into today’s normal.

This is what socialist autocratic systems do.state power can stave disaster off for a long time, while social policies and public production of private goods undermine economic efficiency first and then society's basis. The collapse can be unexpected and faster than seems possible. We have seen this before. No surprise.

Well, their "Yankee go home" rhetoric isn't helping, either. They have made their distaste for America well known, so they can certainly invite the Chinese or Russians in to help them out with their "Roach Motel" diplomacy. (They check in and they don't check out)

It is a cautionary tale about a government trying to run an oil industry.

I have no idea how to help them, but something has to give, or they may as well go back into the forest to live.

One cannot help but wonder exactly what the CIA role is in this situation.

Can anything ever happen in the world that isnt the fault of the US govt?

That is exactly, what Mr Putin would say. Of course, he would know how silly the question is and would be asking it for populist reasons. How about you?

Not for the Russian propaganda machine it can't.

Gosh, maybe I'm related to Putin?!?!?!

Still, all things considered, and with your permission, I am curious as to what role the CIA might have played in this destabilization effort.

Lord Only Knows how much our boys like to foment regime change 'round the globe, especially in South America.

Maybe The Donald is going to change the regime inside the Beltway, eh? ;)

The CIA would only get involved if the rich and powerful had interest in Venezuela. I thought we were already getting their oil cheap. I think this is just a classic case of what happens when governments decide to run things. More and bigger government the more and bigger problems. The facts are clearer than global warning.

Do you suppose that the rich and powerful have interests in Venezuelan oil fields, on shore and off shore? Do you suppose that some in the US government still hold the Monroe Doctrine near and dear?

That is the problem with a government that sticks it's nose in everyone's business. When things go wrong fingers will point in your direction.

I'd have to agree. The most recent example of a failed socialist state. I don't think that the Bernie supporters will pay the needed attention to this that it deserves, and if they are dimly aware, I don't think they'll be in a frame of mind to draw the correct and needed conclusions from Venezuela's collapse.

Feel the Bern Venezuela...

I like to think of socialism as economic morphine: when you're in shock and missing a couple pints of blood, it's a really good idea to have a dose! If you keep taking it, though, you're not going to feel so good.

An interesting analogy.

You could even further that analogy to say that once addicted to socialism, you are going to hit bottom to break that addiction and it may kill you in the process, Venezuela being the latest example of hitting bottom.

Who cares?

This is not a problem for the USA.

Unfortunately it hasn't hit bottom yet. Until the population has torches and pitchforks in hand and the Government can't afford bullets there will still be a wretched decline.

Everyone with even a remote familiarity of history already knew that this day would one day come, ever since Hugo Chávez became president and he implemented the policies that he did.

Yay....socialism! Another success story. Oh...wait...this is different because its not REEEEAAAALLLLLLL socialism....

Because that's the way that I see it.

How does it hurt the USA when people in Venezuela have trouble finding toilet paper?

The us imports approximately 700,000 barrels day or a 1/4 of a billion barrels a year from Venezuela which is a concern to the US.
