or more "liberal media", its the BBC of course.. anti americanism or something similary lame?

Personally I hope the new congress (regardless if its Democratic or Republican held) fixes this fast and continues the investigation and even expands it.

Holy ****! Someone actually does their job of pointing out rampant malfeasance driven inefficiency and our government responds by axing the whistle blowers!
Did you guys read Susan Collins’ response? “Gee, that’s terrible. I don’t know how something like this could have happened.” As if all this **** isn’t recorded down someplace and we can’t just look at the records and see that someone getting a lot of money from Halliburton slapped this *** covering measure in place for just this purpose.
And at the end of the article, we find out that everything’s OK, because the Pentagon will dutifully step in, and shoulder the burden of the outside agency that was revealing their corruption. When was it that government accountability became nothing more than a pipe dream?

Er, that title is an outright lie. Nothing has been stopped. The contract to continue operations simply hasn't been extended past 2007. YET.

However, it most certainly will be, as evidenced by the bipartisan support for doing so.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) plans to introduce legislation next week that would extend the office for about a year.

The inspector general's office "has proven to be a much-needed watchdog auditing reconstruction contracts in Iraq and spotlighting numerous cases of waste, fraud and abuse," Collins, who chairs the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said Friday.

Sens. John W. Warner (R-Va.), Russell D. Feingold (D-Wis.) and Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) also support the extension.

Once again, just as you insinuated in your post, Pete, the ignorance/bias of the media is inexcusable.

so its bad that the media is bringing it up so that congress dont "forget" to renew? I would be almost sure that if congress did remain republican held, that they would forget.

Have any evidence to support that ridiculous claim, or did you just make that up based on absolutely nothing other than your own personal biases?

You did notice that it's a Republican who's calling for and introducing the legislation, correct?

And it was republicans on the ethics commettie that slapped Delay 3 times for misconduct and then got "fired" by the republican leadership for doing thier jobs. Its was republicans who promised to "clean up" congress and in thier 12 years pork barrel spending has gone up 4 fold.

Republicans dont have a great track record of cleaning up congress or investigating thier own messes.

Oh, okay, so you're basing your claims on something completely unrelated that occurred in the House, not the Senate, and something that has absolutely nothing to do with Homeland Security. You have no actual evidence that what you claim is at all true, or would conceivably happen.

As long as we're clear.

Yes we are clear that you are trying to deflect away from the issue at hand. But we shall see if they continue the investigation.

What issue at hand? There is no issue at hand. This is a manufactured story with no newsworthiness.

A commission is established to audit Iraq's rebuilding.
It is, through standard budgetary procedures, funded through a specific timeframe.
It is nowhere near being closed down.
A Republican Senator is introducing a bill to extend the funding, which already exists through 2007.

Care to show me anywhere in there there is something newsworthy?

Jesus, people talk about the damage the military-industrial complex is doing to the nation... I think the Profit-driven media/Ignorant Consumer/Image-driven politician iron triangle is just as unbreakable...
