US soldier accused of planning attack on own unit

US soldier accused of planning attack on own unit - BBC NewsA US soldier has been charged with terrorism offences for planning a deadly ambush on his unit by sending information to a neo-Nazi group. Ethan Melzer, 22, stands accused of sending sensitive details about his unit to the Order of Nine Angles.
The US Department of Justice calls it an "occult-based neo-Nazi and racially motivated violent extremist group".
He was allegedly planning for information to be passed to jihadists, who would then carry out an attack.
His plan was thwarted late last month by the FBI and the US army. He was arrested on 10 June.
Private Melzer has been charged with conspiring and attempting to murder US nationals, conspiring and attempting to murder military service members, providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and conspiring to murder and maim in a foreign country.
Private Melzer enlisted in the US Army in December 2018 and began his active service in June 2019.

"As alleged, Ethan Melzer, a private in the US Army, was the enemy within," said Audrey Strauss, acting US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, in a statement.
"Melzer allegedly attempted to orchestrate a murderous ambush on his own unit by unlawfully revealing its location, strength, and armaments to a neo-Nazi, anarchist, white supremacist group.

It appears that the US has more white supremacist organizations than we knew. This is getting scary.

Not terribly different than fragging in Vietnam. In action, far less violent than fragging.

Yep.. And we're going to see many of these groups attack and try to pin the blame on BLM, etc.. They're itching to start a race war.

Interesting approach to minimization. Previous murders make planning future murders mundane. Aside from that, this is completely different from fragging in Vietnam.

In the sense it was an exchange or leak of information compared to the killing or maiming of a fellow soldier, yes.

Otherwise, fairly similar as some sort of perverted protest.

Pay attention to which posters change the subject.

How come this had to come from the BBC and not a US source?

fragging wasn't political.

fragging wasn't political.

How many fraggings were you involved in? The war in Vietnam was extremely unpopular. That war was political in nature. The fraggings were personal and political.

They were personal. There was never any suggestion that they were political.

Do you remember FTA written everywhere? Similar to 'Kilroy was here', but different.

In the draft card burning era, FTA was written everywhere in the Mekong Delta in 1970. FTA was essentially a political statement.
