We see what the president is saying right now, and its the right thing to say, but, the pentagons preparing and who ordered that? Anyway, the Chinese and Russians have vetoed every attempt for use of force in Syria so far and it's not likely they will relent. Lets hope the US does not act belligerent.

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - CBS News has learned that the Pentagon is making the initial preparations for a cruise missile attack on Syrian government forces. We say "initial preparations" because such an attack won't happen until the president gives the green light. And it was clear during an interview on CNN Friday that he is not there yet.

"If the U.S. goes in and attacks another country, without a U.N. mandate and without clear evidence that can be presented," the president told CNN, "then there are questions in terms of whether international law supports it -- 'do we have the coalition to make it work?' Those are considerations that we have to take into account."

The president requested options, the pentagon provided options and is making those options real through preparation.

And the options are bad, really bad, worse than really bad, and beyond our ability to imagine just how bad. Time like this make you wish for a peace bomb that would put the whole place into a coma for a month while saner minds try and figure out just what the hell to do about this.

Sometimes, drugs are not the answer... m'kay? There are plenty of sane people with ideas about what to do. Do you think Assad, the Russians, the US and the UN are insane?

If you define insanity as repeating the same action while expecting different results, then....yes.

Who wants different results? Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have all straightened up nicely. Things have not gone perfectly and could surely be better, but the primary goals were realized.

And for so little cost in U.S. lives ruined/lost and money spent. ;)

Would you seriously consider visiting any of those "straightened up nicely" places on a family vacation?

Who told you we were trying to build vacation resorts?

You are smoking something fierce if you think afghanistan or the other two have "straightened up nicely". We're losing that war flat out, and the people are still poor as dirt.

Based upon past behavior, without a doubt.

Is AlQ running advanced training camps in Afghanistan? No. Is Saddam still in violation of 17 UNSCRs? No. Are both countries observing UN agreements? Yes.

Mission accomplished.

LOL, are you reporting this from an aircraft carrier in your flight suit? We didn't accomplish ****. Al-Qaeda is stronger world wide than it ever has been, we've lost thousands of lives, trillions of dollars, and we're still going to lose.

I don't think you understand the mission. I'll give you a hint: it was not to install utopia. Abandon your fantasy goals and look at the stated intentions.

Then there's this.. 8(

Isaiah 17: Destruction of Damascus

A Prophecy Against Damascus

17 A prophecy against Damascus:

“See, Damascus will no longer be a city
but will become a heap of ruins.
2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted
and left to flocks, which will lie down,
with no one to make them afraid.
3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim,
and royal power from Damascus;
the remnant of Aram will be
like the glory of the Israelites,”
declares the Lord Almighty."

The Jewish god loves a good slaughter.

Israel get's hit hard also

I'm almost completely convinced that its time, in fact I think it was time long ago, to get rid of Assad through the use of air power, special operations forces acting as advisors and force mutlipliers, and increased support to rebels.

Ya I know that many of these rebel groups are Islamist in nature, there's no denying the sensitivity of this situation where a bad move can lead to a bad outcome or we experience a Libya-like situation where a moderate and friendly government is in power but has trouble fully controlling its territory. But the outcomes from doing nothing are in my opinion far far far worse, war hardens people, it makes people less tolerate, more extreme, more acceptable of unwanted behavior and the longer this conflict goes on the more extreme the rebel Islamist groups will get and the more extreme the Assad government is going to get.

We need to get in there, back the moderate groups, give them advice and assistance, help them build the workings of a post-war government that can provide for its people and naturally attract people away from the extremist groups who will not be able to provide the functions of government as well. And we need to make sure we can provide more, assist better, and back folks that can offer a better solution than the extremist groups or the other groups, some of which are the same, that other middle eastern governments are backing.

The worst thing that can be done, and what I fear is being done, is taking action that only ultimately serves to extend the conflict, assistance that we are giving is not enough to decisively change the outcome at this point, that only serves to protract the conflict and drive more and more people to extremist positions or extremists groups.

That's a very narrow minded view and it ignores the wider objectives behind those tactical objectives that have still yet to be fully achieved.

We have been here before.

Afghanistan is a bust. The Taliban will take control.

Irag and Libya are the Wild wild west where anything goes. Yes the Primary goal of removing Gadhafi and taking his weapons to help Sunni Rebels all across the MB was realized. What wasn't was all the weapons everybody else would get their hands on. As for Iraq.....it is now the Lead Battle Area for the Sunni and Shia sectarian drive to kill one another. Which that was realized.

Moreover now that the West put their support into the MB to lead Democracy in the ME. All there will now fall behind another generation. All due to people believing in the terrorists in the first place.

No AQ is not running training camps in Afghanistan. The Taliban are. Yet AQ has morphed like all knew one day it would. Now are there AQ and their likes still running around in Afghanistan and using it as a Conduit?

No Saddam is dead.

Are both Sunni and Shia Clerics in Iraq under any UN influence at all?

Lawlessness, chaos and anarchy.....if those were the mission. Yeah then that was accomplished.

Which mission? To disrupt the flow of Opium and stick our hand into the til? Or to hand back the government over to the Taliban again?
