Police in the US are investigating a detective who appears to draw his gun during a mass snowball fight on the streets of Washington DC.

Video taken at the scene shows people pelting a man with snowballs after his car, a Hummer, gets stuck in the snow.

The man - not in uniform at the time - then appears to pull out a gun while an angry crowd gathers and chants: "Don't bring a gun to a snowball fight."

Nice to see the "mob" shamed this guy into putting his gun away. It was bad enough at school when some turd put a stone into the centre of his snowball but drawing a gun in retaliation against snowballs is beyond the pale.

:shoot

Hahaha. Fantastic. Anyone else get images of the two cops from Superbad?

The news article is not clear as to whether he actually pulled his gun. The way it is written, he may have pulled his coat back, exposing a gun in a holster. That is a way of letting people know to back off.

Hmm, clearly in the wrong. However, large crowd, middle of DC....And the crowd yelling "**** You Pig"....shrug. Brandishing the weapon was stupid, however both parties in this situation acted foolishly, hopefully he isn't reprimanded too harshly.

It’s all fun and games until the cop killed someone throwing a snowball.

I'd have shot the mob.

Just sayin. I hate getting pegged in the face-bone with snow-balls.

Just goes to show you, Northern Virginians, District Residents, and Marylanders aren't prepared for snow like that. They just can't handle it. Where the hell is global warming when you need it!?

So...why were they pelting him to begin with?

I think some threw snowballs at his car first. He was sat inside and took umbrage - got out and brandished his gun at some point soonafter.

Getting out of the car because someone threw semi-frozen water at it was stupid, brandishing a gun because you were stupid and wanted to make a point is even more stupid.

Just remember they had organised beforehand to meet for a snowfight - he just happened by in his hummer.

Don't you know, global warming caused the snow?

In fact, an Australian just told me that the snow in Maryland and Virginia was causing drought conditions in Australia as well. Imagine.:rofl

nowhere did i say that the two were due to each other

No excuse for throwing objects at people's personal property.....
Did you notice that they stopped throwing snowballs when he pulled out his gun?....
The punks should have got a beating & thrown in jail.....;)
The Boston Massacre started as a snow ball fight....

They sounded like an unruly mob. I don't blame him for pulling his gun.

Snowball fights are only for those who volunteer to participate. Including those who did not volunteer amounts to assault and/or battery.

So, you think assault is justified here due to snow being thrown at a car. Well you're gonna be in for a big surprise the next few days if you're in the west/midwest cause there's a huge snow storm coming. Look at nature throw snow at people's property!

Had the snowball done damage, had there been rocks in it like the snowballs during the Boston Massacre, maybe you'd have a point. Though assault is still not justified. But it was just regular snow balls, and there wasn't anything malicious about it. As such, it's rather stupid to back assault for actions which did no damage in the end. Cop over reacted, that's the plain and simple of it. But it's all said and done now, no harm no foul.

Maybe, but only a ***** would sue. Snow balls don't hurt. Maybe someone doesn't want to get hit and takes one to the chest. Whatever, just bitch at the people throwing the snowball and be on your way. It's a snowball.

Jesus, it's like we're French over here.

It doesn't matter. They don't have the right to hurl objects at other people without their consent. It's that simple.

No we are not the French we are WORSE. We are like the Italians over here now.

And I like how the conservatives are always taking the side of the "law".

Perchance not, but if nothing is broken, people aren't hurt, or jobs aren't impeded I say "don't be a ****ing ***** or move to France, Frenchy-la-femme".

Hmmm....Throwing a snowball at someone might be a misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct maybe. Drawing a weapon is dangerously close to "assault with a deadly weapon" seeing as all you have to do for ADW is point it at someone. Good for him that he kept it pointed down like a responsible gun handler, but whipping out his piece for SNOWBALLS could cost him his badge or at least land him a nice suspension.

If snowballs are packed with ice, thrown with a spin, they do too hurt. I can remember being hit in the face as a youngster, and they were painful. He also probably felt threatened at the attitude of the crowd.
