A US naval commander has been sacked over his alleged links to an elaborate bribery scandal that involved prostitutes, luxury travel and multimillion-dollar government contracts, officials said Friday.

Captain Daniel Dusek, commanding officer of the USS Bonhomme Richard based at the port of Sasebo, Japan, was relieved of his duties "due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command," the Navy said in a statement.

Another naval officer, Commander Michael Misiewicz, who commanded a destroyer and served as deputy operations officer for the head of the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific, has been charged in the case, as well as a supervisory special agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

The firm cited by federal prosecutors is Glenn Defense Marine Asia, and the CEO, Leonard Francis, has been charged, along with Misiewicz and the NCIS agent, with conspiracy to commit bribery.....snip~

WTF.....more US Naval Commanders hooked up. An investigation led by the Justice Dept? Holder and his team?

You know.....its about time the Justice Dept of the US gets purged. Including.....Judges and any Political Prosecuting Pricks. Then all those that work in the background. Time to go all PC like with the Justice Dept. Lets take it all the way down to anything and everything they touch and who works for them. Including ALL those SNITCHES on the Streets.

This is becoming more of an expected thing rather than a scandal.

Military/Industrial Complex. Don't bet the farm on any sweeping changes.

Meantime Congress tries to reduce the budget. :wink3:

Military/Industrial Complex. Don't bet the farm on any sweeping changes.

I'll bet the dirt inside the Justice Dept.....will help associate that concept with those that say they walk within the Law. That Preach about the Law. That act like they are always upholding the law.

But then do Americans really want to know how corrupt that Dept really is.....filled with attorneys and those that will break, bend and do all they can to get around the law.
I often find when the tables are turned with such types....that it provides for much more of an Entertaining story.

Well truthfully they got this Misiewicz.....dead to Rights. Relieving the Commander for loss of Confidence is questionable.

Commander Misiewicz.

Emails quoted in the court documents appear to show Misiewicz engaging in discussions with Francis about attempts to use his position to change ship schedules and destinations, ostensibly to push business towards GDMA and sometimes with apparent success. Prosecutors also accuse Misiewicz of handing over confidential ship movement plans to Francis that gave GDMA a competitive advantage.

In addition, prosecutors said that once in port, GDMA repeatedly overbilled the Navy. In one instance, GDMA asked for $2.7 million for a port visit by the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis when other port visits by aircraft carriers in the same country cost approximately $1.36 million

In the case of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) agent, Supervisory Special Agent John Beliveau II was charged in a separate bribery scheme also involving Francis, in which Beliveau allegedly gave Francis confidential information about an NCIS investigation into GDMA -- including reports taken from the NCIS database -- and advised him on how to respond to NCIS inquiries. Beliveau provided those services, prosecutors say, for "among other things, paid travel, luxury hotel stays and prostitution services."

Misiewicz, Beliveau and Francis were all arrested Monday and charged with conspiracy to commit bribery, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.....snip~

The Navy is breaking records every year with how many commanders (not just CDRs) they are relieving. Sad reality of the Navy today. The desire to stay in for most has faded as it's just too easy to get relieved for a variety of reasons. This case may be different, but the legitimate reliefs are overshadowed by the BS ones.

Heya SBu. :2wave: It's looking like that all across US Armed Services. Which for years they have been pushing to get those out before they get their 20 in. Although there needs to be an understanding that there are some that are not meant for a Civilian life.

If you go back in our history and look at the early careers of a lot of our most revered military commanders, they wouldn't last one tour in today's military. Americans need to decide between two choices: 1. Do you want your military to be a kick ass fighting machine with dynamic leadership (which will require us to look in the other direction at some things) -or- 2. Do you want your military to be average at best with average politicking leadership (which is what you get in a PC military).

Oh, and Heya MMC!

>" Former 7th Fleet deputy operations officer, based on the USS Blue Ridge at Yokosuka, Japan, Misiewicz was assigned to the Northern Command at Peterson AFB in Colorado when he was taken into custody.

Two other individuals arrested and allegedly in the middle of the fraud to overcharge U.S. warships for essential services - providing tugboats, food, fuel and fresh water - as they visited ports of call in Singapore and Thailand, are NCIS supervisor and Special Agent John Beliveau, and Leonard Francis, CEO of Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd.

Beliveau was cuffed in Norfolk, Va., while Francis was arrested in San Diego.

According to court documents, Misiewicz - on the captains list, no less - took bribes of expensive gifts and sexy prostitutes in exchange for "tipping off" alleged co-conspirator Francis and so-called law enforcement officer Beliveau, which ships would dock where, and whenever possible, using his influence to arrive at those locations.

The crooks preferred ports where security measures were lax. For example, when the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln tied up at Laem Chabang, Thailand in 2012, American taxpayers were over-charged by a cool $500,000.

What made the 45 year-old Misiewicz throw away the story-book, fairy-tale life that would have ended in honorable retirement and a fat pension check? Lust and greed.

All three accused face up to five years in prison if convicted of conspiracy in the port-of-call crimes..."<

They made some tall money off the Stennis. Over a Mil too.

You lost me....are you claiming this might not be a legitimate relief? I'd love to hear the logic.

But actually, I'm curious now. Could you give a couple of examples of illegitimate relief of command so I understand your criteria?

Loss of Confidence resulting in being relieved for command. Coming about due to others activities under that command. Hows that work for ya?

That's not an example, that's a...you know, I don't know what that is. But it's not an example. Can you give an example of loss of confidence resulting in relief. And a commander is responsible for everything that happens under his command.

Here is one.....no other explanation.

Didn't we just have An Admiral in the Navy released for Loss of Confidence.....without any attachment.

Maj. Gen. Ralph Baker, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, was fired March 28, according to a Washington Defense official.

The command is headquartered in Djibouti and runs U.S. military operations in East Africa, including some counter-terrorism operations.

Baker, a two-star general, is appealing the firing, which was ordered by his boss, Gen. Carter Ham, the commanding general of all U.S. military operations across Africa.

He was relieved of his duty for loss of confidence, three Defense officials told CNN

There are reports that two high-ranking military officers, Rear Admiral Charles Gaouette and General Carter Ham, were fired by Obama for wanting to come to the assistance of the beleaguered U.S. missions in Benghazi......snip~

Oh and The other.....with the Admiral. It was Inappropriate Judgment Command.....which Obama relieved him of command this year.

Stars and Stripes reported October 18, 2012 that General Ham is being replaced by Gen. David Rodriguez. They also reported on October 27, 2012 that Adm. Gaouette is being replaced by Rear Adm. Troy M. Shoemaker. The Navy stated that it was "replacing the admiral in command of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Middle East, pending the outcome of an internal investigation into undisclosed allegations of inappropriate judgment.".....snip~

Sounds about right.

And a commander is responsible for everything that happens under his command.

So is the President of the United States as Cn'C.

Untill 4 and 2/3 years ago. I guess that's the change that Obama was talking about.

Except Gaouette and his command were in the Pacific and nowhere near Libya on Sept 12. And Ham stayed in command until April 2013. He wasn't't relieved, it was a normal end of tour.

Except for the fact of what the Admiral was relieved from Command.....moreover General Ham took that assignment and was in Command for less than a year. Do Generals take commands expecting to be relieved at the End of what you are calling a tour. Do you think Most Generals tours are for less than a year?

Changing the tangent still doesn't change the fact of those types of Charges that caused these two senior commanding officers to be relieved from command.

So No.....General Ham's time and what you called Tour.....Never was!

Except for the fact of what the Admiral was relieved from Command.....
Yes he was, but not over Benghazi.

moreover General Ham took that assignment and was in Command for less than a year. Do Generals take commands expecting to be relieved at the End of what you are calling a tour. Do you think Most Generals tours are for less than a year?
March 2011 to April 2013 is less than a year? Which planet's year do you mean? And 2 years is a normal command tour. So other than conspiracy theories, I find nothing to suggest Gen Ham was relieved for cause.

Changing the tangent still doesn't change the fact of those types of Charges that caused these two senior commanding officers to be relieved from command.
and bringing up vague reasons for relief doesn't't change that the charges in the OP were for bribery....hardly a spurious charge.

I stated from the get go in answering your examples which shows you that Some are relieved from Command over what is questionable. You asked for examples and were given them. Which cannot be denied. No matter how many times you change tangents. So looking for those miniscule points that don't apply. Doesn't change those facts. Doesn't really mean nothing.

Oh did you want to play about the planets actual time? I'll bet you thought you was trying to be funny Right? To bad that command was relieved 6 months prior to the end of the tour. Usually when there is no trouble and Command is changed. A bit of Pomp and Ceremony takes place. Did you figure out why that didn't take place.....yet? Hows your time factor looking now? Did you still want to play with the Planets actual time?

Along with, what you thought you knew about charges that get made up. Did you want to look back into some history some more to see more of those Questionable and if not lies as to why Command Officers have been relieved from their spot. Or were you actually going to try and say. Such never happens within the US military?

Looks like they now have suspended two More Admirals and implicated them with this story here. Charges are for inappropriate conduct, again. Except this time.....someone in Team Obama went after the US Navy's Director of Intelligence. Tying him to this BS they had best be Right.

U.S. Navy cuts security access of two top intelligence officers
Reuters – 10 hrs ago

Two of the U.S. Navy's top intelligence officials had their access to classified materials suspended on Friday over their ties to a widening bribery scandal involving a Singapore-based defense contractor, the Navy said. Vice Admiral Ted Branch, director of Naval Intelligence, and Rear Admiral Bruce Loveless, the director of Intelligence Operations, were also put on temporary leave because of allegations of "inappropriate conduct."

"There is no indication, nor do the allegations suggest, that in either case there was any breach of classified information," Rear Admiral John Kirby, Navy chief of information, said in a statement.

Branch and Loveless are the most senior Navy officials so far linked to a case involving Leonard Glenn Francis, whose company Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd helped arrange maintenance and resupply visits for Navy ships to Asian ports.

Francis, a Malaysian national, is accused of providing prostitutes, money, concert tickets and other gifts in exchange for sensitive and classified Navy information, such as ship movements. He would use that information to arrange visits by U.S. Navy vessels to ports where his company had contracts.

The U.S. Justice Department estimated that Francis, who was arrested in San Diego in September, provided hundreds of millions of dollars in services to the U.S. Navy.

Three other Navy officials have already been charged over the alleged scandal. They include Navy Commander Michael Misiewicz, charged in September with accepting paid travel, the services of prostitutes and Lady Gaga concert tickets from Francis's company, California prosecutors said. On Wednesday, Commander Jose Luis Sanchez was arrested in Florida and charged with accepting prostitutes, luxury travel and $100,000 in cash from Francis "in exchange for classified and internal U.S. Navy information," prosecutors said.

Kirby said it was possible more Navy officials would be implicated in the widening scandal involving Glenn Defense Marine Asia.....snip~
