BERLIN — US Marines Thursday rescued a German-owned ship seized by pirates in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia after hijackers vainly sought the crew which hid in a secret compartment, the US military and the shipping firm said.

Looks like somebody just got their asses royally kicked. LOL.

I have not read your article, but I did read another earlier that mentioned not a shot was fired, so not so sure there was a lot of ass kicking, but I imagine there were a lot of soiled drawers.

The pirates spent nearly 20 hours searching for the crew and even phoned the shipping company in Germany to ask where they were hidden, a spokesman for the firm said. -- Snip -- They were told the crew was on holiday.

This is the caliber of intelligence of these feared Somalian pirates? What a hoot.

This would make an excellent Monty Python show. LMAO.

Hats off and a big salute to Marines and Navy. We do have the best military in spite of attempts to gut it by some.

Those who stand for nothing fall for anything

Good point. Despite the best efforts of George W. Bush and his cronies to spread our military too thin in two disastrous, unnecessary wars, we still have the finest most capable military on the planet.

Looks like the Somalian Government needs to be threatened with a damn good thrashing.

We've had wars against Iraq and Afghanistan, with scuffles on the Pakistani border. It wouldn't be inconsistent to deal with the Somalians if they refuse to get a grip.

The Somali government would probably talk about how long-winded and difficult it would be to clamp down on these pirates. But we could help things along by having an international fleet bomb the heck out of all these Somali ports but one.

The pirates would only have one serviceable port and thus be hemmed in, making them easier to catch. Simple.

Out of curiosity, why did US forced get involved?

After the distress signal was sent out, my guess is that the USS Dubuque was the nearest capable responder in the Gulf of Aden. All nations have an interest in ridding the trade lanes of these pirates, and they have attacked US ships before.
