If there is any question that Bush's isolationist foreign policy is destroying our standing in the world community, this poll provides insight.

I don't think that it is not something that cannot be corrected depending upon what happens in the next election, but whoever the next President is, they will have their work cut out for them in restoring America's integrity and respect among the world community including out allies.

While they stand around and do nothing.

BBC. lol.

It's going to take more than a socialist media tool to convince me of that.

They should be starting made up wars like we do!

If they had been enforcing resolutions that were already on the books with Saddam this never would have happened.

That's total bullshit! The UN had inspectors on the ground in Iraq and they were FORCED to get out because of Bush's invasion.

Your argument doesn't wash...

Why do you want to be convinced when your mind is already made up? You remind me of that line in a Dylan song,
"How many times can a man turn his head
pretending he just doesn't see..."

Isolationist? Bush is the most interventionist president we've had since Woodrow Wilson.

I don't think mickeymouse up there understands that isolationist means isolation...ist.

Didn't see your point there. So you're still a big zero!

I agree, completely. Bush is by no means an isolationist.

What I am referring to by "isolationist" is that Bush is willing to pursue his own failed policies at the expense of alientating us from our allies and the rest of the world. In that sense....he is an isolationist.

"Unilateralist" might be a better word for a policy that ignores international sentiment.

Unilateralist is another good term to describe it because Bush is willing to pursue his own agenda "unilaterally"....however....I stand by my contention that Bush is isolating us from our allies and the rest of the world community.

While they stand around and do nothing.

So, the choosing to do something and make it worse is better than doing nothing?

Not that I agree they are doing nothing, mind you. War and belligerence only seems like its more engaged in 'doing something'. It is easier for the simple minded to grasp that something is going on, though, I'll grant you that.

Yeah US image sharply worsens as Islam becomes the fastest growing religion in the world. I don't know about you all but I'm definitely not the "If you can't beat 'em join 'em type." I'll go down kicking and screaming before I'm fitted for my burka.

Isolationist is a term that has been consistently used to describe a type of foreign policy that is minimally involved in world affairs or affairs of other countries. This was pretty standard US foreign policy until Woodrow Wilson.

Unilateralist is a far more accurate term to be used in regards to Bush's foreign policy.

I think they are isolating themselves from us.

I don't agree with the premise of the question.

Not that I agree they are doing nothing, mind you.

Well what are they doing to help?

War and belligerence only seems like its more engaged in 'doing something'.

It usually IS more engaged than doing nothing.

It is easier for the simple minded to grasp that something is going on, though, I'll grant you that.

Meaning what, only the intelligent can grasp that something is going on when nothing is going on?

Well what are they doing to help?

Well for example

Most other develop countries give more aid then USA as percentage of GNI:

http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/40/3/35389786.pdf

UN have set up an ambituis goal to fight poverty, that will both lead to better global development and security at the same time helping alot of peope:

The UN Millennium Development Goals

UN has over ten active peacekeeping missions around the world:

United Nations Peacekeeping

But of course for the American tv networks it's much more intersting to see Americans fighting and risking there lifes in a "cool war", then broadcasting newsreport on all the other things that going on to make the world better.
