US considering sending extra weaponry to Ukraine as fears mount over potential Moscow invasion.

The package could include new Javelin anti-tank and anti-armor missiles as well as mortars, the sources said.
Air defense systems, such as stinger missiles, are also under consideration, and the Defense Department has been pressing for some equipment that would have gone to Afghanistan -- like Mi-17 helicopters -- to instead be sent to Ukraine. The Mi-17 is a Russian helicopter that the US originally purchased to give to the Afghans.

great News ! the next step NATO membership for Georgia, Ukraine ! Democrats and Republicans fight together Moscow Despotia !

If anyone thinks Biden will protect anyone from Russia they're a fool.

Obama gave Russia all of Ukraine's Crimea. Biden will give Putin anything remaining of Ukraine that he wants. He gave Putin our oil and gas business, worth hundreds of billions minimally and agreed to Russia having all of the EU for oil and gas business - while we beg Arabs for oil and drain our emergency oil reserve. Biden gave the Taliban $85 billion in military equipment plus the names of our Afghanistan allies so the Taliban can use American military equipment to slaughter the last of the our Afghan allies that fled to the mountains.

Biden will do ANYTHING, anything at all that Putin and Jinping want - no exceptions. I have not doubt Biden long secret phone call with Putin was Putin giving Biden orders. Biden would do nothing real to stop Russia from invading Crimea or anywhere else. Putin and Jinping can invade and take any country they want to. If Jinping invaded Hawaii, it would be theirs. Russia can take back Alaska anytime Putin wants it.

you can dislike or like Biden but we all see (including Biden) that this no space for retreat from the conflict with putin´s empire anymore ...

The Ukraine and Belarus share borderers with Poland. Russia is further inland and any Russian invasion to strike its real enemy (Poland) its troops would have to pass through either of these two countries. Russia is to the east of both who border upon Poland.

So invading Poland is quite unlikely to happen. Besides, all that Putin wants is to be able to do is complete his own tenure of office (and perhaps win yet again reelection).

He's scared of an eventual assassination of himself, given the massive theft of Russia's net-wealth by him and his friends. I suggest that starting a war is no way for him to hang on to the Russian presidency and he will likely have to manipulate the electoral results - as he did to get reelected - to stay in power.

He's a shrewd character and has been all his life, which is how he managed to become president of Russia.

Pity the Russians who thought that after dumping Communism they might have a "decent democracy". But that was not to happen. The elitist regimes up to an end to that dream. Putin has been in power since January 1st, 2000.

That's thirty years that he has been ruling Russia. He may have had enough ...

He has an agenda that ignores facts.

Fyi the mi-17 helicopters and other variants are even popular in america, they are widely used worldwide east and west due to how rugged they were, as well as their lift capacity and cost. Granted the us military does not use them but did buy them for afghanistan.

Now litwin will call it great then probably in another thread call the mi-17 outdated junk, even the western world does not call them junk, civilians love them, they are cheap rugged and heavy lift, but they are also russia so litwin must hate them even if ukraine owns them.

whats about "Javelin anti-tank and anti-armor missiles"?
Depends on what they are used on, the most advanced tank rebels have had is the t-80, besides that they are mostly using obsolete tanks from the 50's-60's.

Against a t-90 or a modernized t-72 no one knows how much good it will do, because even modern tow missiles have mostly failed to touch the t-90 and the current t-72 used all the upgrades of the t-90 and only differs in turret with the 90 using the t-80 turret and the t-72 currently using an even better turret than the t-90.

Either way only a single t-90 was lost to a tow missile by hitting during the autoloader vulnerability and all others kept fighting like the tow did nothing, how much more the javelin would do is unknown since it has not been used yet on such tanks. So this would also come down to a whether ukraine was fighting rebels armed with russia's throw away tanks or a real invasion by russia using modern tanks, and how well the javelin can damage multi layer modern reactive armor designed to stop multi charge warheads.

I looked it up and it looks like our forces in Afghanitstan did use Mi-17s in limited scale.

Why do you keep spamming the word "horde" when speaking of RUSSIANS?

It is a stupid thing to do since the RUSSIANS defeated the Horde.

And Bush gave Russia South Ossetia and Trump gave Russia a free hand in Syria. Not standing up to Russia is bi-partisan.

agreed , but today the situation is different. do you agree ?

Putin will chose one of his henchmen - that is, someone upon which he has his "claws".

I mean by that he controls the person. He will do this because he has disturbed (polite word) far too many who would like to get even with him.

His daughter has bought a very nice place (vineyard and all) in Bordeaux. I'm sure "daddy" funded the purchase. He could always go there - he has an ambivalent attitude towards France, and they to him.

Besides, the weather is so much nicer in southern-France than Moscow.

We shall see ...
