If you can't beat the Chinese then join them in co-production, technology transfer etc. or be left out in the woods.
Washington (AFP) - The United States Monday reacted with alarm to news that Turkey has chosen a Chinese company, slapped with US sanctions, to build its first long-range air defense and anti-missile system.
China Precision Machinery Export-Import Corp (CPMIEC) beat out competition from a US partnership of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, Russia's Rosoboronexport, and the Italian-French consortium Eurosamrs in the tender, worth $4 billion according to Turkish media.
Turkey is a key regional ally to the United States, and currently has US-built Patriot missile systems deployed on its border to deter incoming attacks from Syria.
US concerned at Turkey's pick of Chinese missiles

It's a free market. ;)

Deploying some Patriot missiles for some ROI is wishful thinking.

Plus even if Turkiye would pick the USA odds are that the labor intended for such production might be outsourced to China like everything else!

CPMIEC is under U.S. sanctions for violations of the Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Act, and the United States has expressed "serious concerns" over Turkey's decision. NATO sources said collaboration with China on the system could raise questions of compatibility of weaponry and of security...

Arinc said that while the deal had not yet been completed, the initial selection had been based on the Chinese offer being the most economical and because some of the production would be carried out in conjunction with Turkey.

The suspicious deaths of four engineers who were declared to have committed suicide might have been murder, according to a new indictment into an espionage gang within the naval forces.

All four men worked for ASELSAN, a defense industry giant that produces technology for the Turkish military. The deaths are being investigated again as part of the ongoing probe into a gang that faces accusations of making use of prostitutes, blackmail and espionage. There are 56 suspects in the investigation, including military officers.

Recently, the İstanbul Police Department’s Anti-Organized Crime Unit requested the closed case files of Hüseyin Başbilen, Halim Ünsem Ünal and Evrim Yançeken -- who were reported to have killed themselves between 2006 and 2007 -- in order to re-launch an investigation. All three were assigned to encryption and decryption projects at ASELSAN and had worked on highly strategic projects in the past.

Was the police really interested in those suicides or was this one of those political investigations, not unheard of in Turkey, that

Six academics were among the 57 people who lost their lives in a plane crash near Isparta, Turkey on Friday. The Turkish academic world is in great mourning for the six researchers, who were heading to a physics conference at Süleyman Demirel University in Isparta when their plane crashed just kilometres from the airport.

Dr. Engin Arık, research assistant Özgen Berkol Doğan and graduate student Engin Abat from Boğaziçi University, as well as Dr. Şenel Fatma, assistant professor Iskender Hikmet and research assistant Mustafa Fidan from Doğuş University, have been described in the academic world as ‘academic martyrs’.

“They were involved in the first Turkish Acceleration Centre with support from the State Planning Agency, working on the technical structure and the test laboratory project. They were on their way to the physics general assembly to show what they had been working on. Their aim was to develop the scientific foundations to ensure a better future for Turkey,” said Doğuş University President Dr. Mithat Uysal.

Dr. Ayşe Soysal, president of Boğaziçi University, said that this was a tremendous loss, adding that Prof. Engin Arık had been nominated for an award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences on 15th Nov. “She was an important scientist representing Turkey overseas. I believe that she would have won the award”.
