This Sunday is Obama's Birthday.....The US is being Threatened that our Embassies in the ME, will be hit. This is all we are being told at this time. Other than it may go beyond this Sunday. Thoughts upon the matter?

The United States is closing all of its embassies Sunday in the Middle East and parts of Asia because of a possible al-Qaeda-related threat to diplomatic posts worldwide, American officials told NBC News on Thursday.

The U.S. has been "apprised of information that out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting our installations, that indicates we should institute these precautionary steps," said State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf.

A senior State Department official told NBC News that all embassies that are usually open in Sundays — primarily those in Muslim countries and Israel — would be closed Aug. 4 "out of an abundance of caution." Sunday is a normal workday in those countries.

Sunday is President Barack Obama's 52nd birthday, and it's also the day Iran inaugurates Hassan Rowhani as its new president. But U.S. officials told NBC News they had heard nothing to indicate that the date was chosen for either of those reasons.....snip~

I wonder how much good it would have done in Benghazi? (Yeah, yeah, I know it wasn't officially an embassy.) I guess I'd rather hear that they were doubling security. I doubt problems generally occur from inside an embassy, but rather from the grounds.

Heya Maggie :2wave: It will also include Consulates. But take a look at this Team Obama is going back to Feb and going with a Worldwide Caution.

All U.S. embassies and consulates that normally open on a Sunday are to close on Aug. 4 because of a possible al Qaeda-related threat, U.S. officials have said.

At least 16 diplomatic posts were affected by the closure, with most posting details of the shutdowns on their websites.

The officials said the threat appeared to be related to al-Qaeda and tied to Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, which ends Wednesday.

It was aimed at overseas diplomatic posts, not at facilities inside the U.S., they said.

Notices on several embassies’ websites pointed to a “Worldwide Caution” issued by the State Department on Feb. 19 for further information.

“Credible information indicates terrorist groups … seek to continue attacks against U.S. interests in the Middle East and North Africa,” it said. “The U.S. government remains highly concerned about possible attacks against U.S. citizens, facilities, businesses, and perceived U.S. and Western interests.”

The embassies and consulates due to close Sunday include: Sana'a, Yemen; Tel Aviv, Israel; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Kuwait City, Kuwait; Ankara, Turkey; Muscat, Oman; Doha, Qatar; Cairo, Egypt; Kabul, Afghanistan; Baghdad, Iraq; Amman, Jordan; Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Manama, Bahrain; Tripoli, Libya; and Doha, Qatar.....snip~

Possible al Qaeda threat closes all US embassies Sunday across Middle East - World News

Note.....I am using the Libs News Sources as well. Sunday is the First day of the Week for Muslims and the Arab World. Just another day to them. The Question I would ask all those Alleged Sunni Allies.....Why am I having to close my operations down. Over what you can't handle. Then I would make them an Offer.....They can't refuse!

Concerning Benghazi.....do you think that Team Obama can get round the fact that we had 69 CIA agents on the Ground in Benghazi when Stevens got hit?

That sounds like an extremely stupid security plan, especially since the closure period is but a single day and has been announced in advance. Terrorists may not be the brightest bunch but they do react to our security measures, or the lack thereof. ;)

*CAUTION: this post may contain sarcasm*

Closing the embassies for one day will do exactly what to protect American civilians in those regions? Protection of embassy staff who live off-grounds?

And, slam of all slams, rumored to happened on President Obama's birthday. But I thought they were his friends.....

I'm starting to think the whole thing was a CIA operation to begin with. Nobody has been able to explain why the ambassador was in Benghazi in the first place, particularly without taking adequate security. It explains the lack of answers and explains the stand down order (if it exists). Why else would 69 CIA agents be there?

I bet the families of the four killed in Benghazi wish they took this kind of consideration on 11 September of last year.

Two weeks into the scandal, there was information out there that the CIA was running a gun operation there. I guess the "news" is that there were so many agents on the ground. We'll probably never find out the truth here. Sixty-nine agents given early retirement and full pensions hinging on their silence is tough to beat.

If the ambassador was there helping the secret operation....well, no wonder nobody jumped in to save him. We won't here about it though, because one side wants to keep it secret, and the other side doesn't want to hear it if it's not "IMPEACH!"

Security detail for US Embassies and other diplomatic facilities and missions is performed by the USMC, not the CIA.

Well, I did bring up the fact of the Turks Envoy being there when they had closed their Embassy in Libya. As well as the Libyan freighter that showed up off the Cost of Libya 5 days Prior. While Miraculously the Rebels all of a sudden had some Man Pads.

The same Mad Pads that Hillary testified to that we were trying to secure after the Fall of Gadhafi. Yet somehow the Syrian Rebels got them.

Then there was Stevens meeting that Turk Envoy.....1-2 hrs before the attack took place on our alleged Consulate that was a CIA front.

Exactly. They weren't in Benghazi to be security detail for the ambassador, they had a job to do.

My understanding of these sort of things is that your mission is paramount. You don't drop everything to save your cohorts.

Actually the Marines do not guard the embassy or the Ambassador. The 5 man detachments, headed by a senior NCO who reports to the RSO, (more than likely a CIA agent), safe keep the secured communications and top secret documents an embassy may have. When the Iranian Embassy was overrun in '79 the Marines did not resist as their mission was to destroy the top secret communications equipment, codes and secret files.

The State Dept contracts with private security firms, which may or maynot be CIA operatives, for body guards. These are professional highly trained soldiers with a much higher level of training than an embassy Marine. (back in my day they were called mercenaries or mercs) Highly motivated these men fight and die under contract not under oath. For some that is a difference. These men were not aid workers or civil engineers, they were life takers- maybe heart breakers too, ya never know....

So while the cover of meeting with some Turkish official was given, just why the Ambassador left the far better protected embassy for the well known as exposed and vulnerable Consulate for such a routine meeting begs for an answer I doubt 'national security' will permit.

I would imagine those 69 agents were spread out as nothing looks more 'innocent' than a large number of men milling around trying to look 'natural'...

CIA agents are not mercs in full body armor and weaponry (battle rattle). They are spies not GI Joe. I also doubt many carried secret squirrel commo gear to be instantly alerted to the attack. I doubt many even carried a pistol. They are there under varying degrees of cover trying to accomplish a very risky, covert and in many places punishable by instant death if discovered, highly classified mission. They are subject to random search so ANYTHING from encrypted cell phone to sitting too close to someone 'they' suspect can get you killed.

It ain't Hollywood, there is no script, no carefully choreographed 'fight scene'.

I'da thought everyone who served knows- Mission First.

One would think common sense would apply and Mission First.....becomes a secondary after an Operation is blown and safehouse compromised. Then an Ambassador killed along with others. While several others were injured.

Course it would actually take one who knows what they are talking about in the first place. Rather than looking for a Hollywood excuse to try and correlate any logical thought into CIA Operations.

Common sense???? I'd say anyone with any common sense would know CIA agents are not soldiers but spies. they don't train to assault enemy positions, don't have Bat signals to recall them, and don't blow their cover even under extreme duress. The mission isn't 'blown' until it is called off, and for all any of us know it did continue. In combat just because you CO bites the big one doesn't mean you get to stop the mission unless you are a coward or quitter.

Any agent who suddenly flees from his undercover mission would compromise any assets he developed in-country. To just pull out means 'they died in vain' is often used by 'conservatives' as a reason to continue a war or 'nation building' aftermath.

All removal of any coordinated attack, the CIA, and covert programs from the talking points could very well have been cover continue the operation or to get the people out without endangering their contacts so a cover story had to be floated- the 9-11 spontaneous attack one. those on the political right could have been endangering the lives of all those other agents out in covert positions looking to get back, finish the operation, survive the operation...

Are you trying to say that these men and women who risk their lives for the nation in very risky covert operations are so easily bought off if there was real wrong doing?

Seriously???? :(

Yeah, Most with an ABC education would know CIA agents aren't soldiers. So your attempt at trying to explain in any way is a moot point. Unless you need it so, to explain it to yourself. Since it is clear you need to watch Hollywood to have some sort of idea as to what you can correlate with the CIA.

They do what is necessary when it comes to getting out from a blown mission and saving others lives that are all part of their operations. Working independently of others.
Just like they do in any war zone.

Course if those from the political left wouldn't have avoided the Obvious and Clear Warning signs.....prior to that specific attack. Then there would have been No compromise of CIA warehouses and a Safehouse. Along with all those agents and operations that were taking place.
