The U.S. has started to train Ukrainian troops on howitzer artillery systems and radars at U.S. military installations in Germany, the Pentagon’s top spokesperson said Friday. The efforts will build on initial artillery training given to a small number of Ukrainian forces elsewhere, and will also include training on the radar systems and armored vehicles the U.S. recently pledged to Kyiv, press secretary John Kirby told reporters. The Florida National Guard will provide “the bulk of the training,” as those forces had been training Ukrainian troops before being moved out of Ukraine ahead of Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion, Kirby said. “The recent reunion now of these Florida National Guard members with their Ukrainian colleagues, we are told, was an emotional meeting given the strong bonds that were formed as they were living and working together before temporarily parting ways in February,” Kirby said.

The U.S. is training 100 more Ukrainians on howitzer artillery systems in Europe in a five-day course, according to the Pentagon. Washington has said it will send 90 howitzers total to the embattled country as part of two security assistance packages worth $800 million each, announced earlier this month. Another 15 Ukrainians are being trained on radars for about a week. The troops will then return to Ukraine to train their fellow soldiers on how to use the systems. Kirby also noted that Germany is one of “roughly three” sites being used by the U.S. to train Ukrainians outside of their country, but he would not say where the other sites were. In addition, the U.S. is considering the option of doing virtual training with Ukrainians on some defense equipment, Kirby said.

Before the Russian invasion, elements of the Florida National Guard were training Ukrainians at the Yazoriv Combat Training Center near Lviv.

I would imagine that Poland and one of the Baltic States are also providing training sites.

The US is bring us closer to WWIII with what they are doing in Ukraine.

The US is not fighting in Ukraine. Neither is NATO.

Canadian special forces have been training Ukrainians for five years.

When Russia invaded they were moved to Poland and have kind of dropped out of sight. When that same unit, JTF2, was training Kurds they were known to go out of bounds and engage ISIS with their Kurdish trainees.

edit- sorry about the failed link. I'm using an unfamiliar device. It was meant to link to a report about Operation Unifier.

If we are drawing closer to WW3 its because Putin is driving the bus. What America does or doesnt do, short of actually engaging on the battlefield, is irrelevant.

No.
We are meddling where we should not be.

If anything we should be helping Russia accomplish it's goal of “demilitarise and de-Nazify”. Instead our meddling is making it worse.

Ah... we have another Putin fanboi.

How much closer do you think we can get before you need to duck and cover?

And who are "they" who are doing what in Ukraine?
How much more of a threat can Putin be if his puppy dog Lavrov is already hinting a nuclear weapons in Ukraine?
SHould we just turn tail and run because Putin is mad and he wants us to fear him?

No.

Tell us, ExCon,
Are you being coached by one of Putin's lap dogs to let us think all of NATO and the West should be cowed by Putin's madness?
Should we just tell the Ukrainians to stand down and let Russian troops take over the entire country because we are finally frightened by Putin the mad dictator?
What should your advice be to every NATO commander over there?

It is relevant. The US is not fighting in Ukraine.
More irrelevancy to anything I said. Figures.
Just you being wrong as usual.

Ah... we have another Putin fanboi.
If that is what you are claiming you are, okay. What technology or tech company of Putin's are you attracted or devoted to?

In case you don't understand the reply. - 1. "Fanboi" is different than "fanboy". Learn the difference.
2. That a person acknowledges one party is in the right, does not make that person a fanboy of that one party.

Looks like you support hands off, let Putin do whatever he wants.

Put it this way.

If the US had the same issue on one of our borders, I believe our country would be acting the same way for the same reason.
And then let Russia meddle in that.

And what issue would that be? Be specific please.

I am not playing your game.
Maybe you are worried that Mexico or Canada might suddenly invade the U.S. and we will be caught with our pants down around our knees. Is that right?

No.

And Putin isn't meddling where he should not be? Are you seriously taking Putin's side over the Ukrainians after all the videos and pics we've all seen over the past weeks?
