Uruguay president's entire assets: a VW Beetle

I doubt it. This is a continuation of the same party that's held the Uruguayan presidency since 2005 and despite technically being a left-wing party, all that has really meant is a market economy with social welfare programs. Basically, like Chile's center-left Concert of Parties for Democracy, these guys are capitalists with a welfare state rather than real socialists like Chavez. Really, most of the South American left is like that with only a few places like Venezuela or Bolivia really going socialist.

Uruguay president's entire assets: a VW Beetle - Telegraph

Give him time, I have not the slightest doubt he will turn out to be a Chavez or a Castro, interested in his own vision of how his Country should be run and completely oblivious to what Democracy actually does mean.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt. He recently said in Argentina that the “Press should be free”. That’s totally the opposite Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Argentina, and Venezuela’s presidents preach and practice.

In Ecuador Rafael Correa declared a VW Brazilia valued in $ 1.500 among his assets, a year ago his brother was accused of having contracts with the government (it’s illegal) for 180 millions of dollars, that’s how these so called “socialists” spread richness: Only among their corrupted circle.

Time will let us know.

I'd rather the media was a mouthpiece for the upper class attempting to functionally undermine the government at every step...

It is in most cases. Now if what you really like is ONE MEDIA that says what ever the government wants to be said like "Granma" in Cuba, then that's another story.

Take as an example Venezuela, Chavez has A LOT of media communications including TV, Radio stations, newspapers, and on, and on. He however keeps his speech about the "Biased Media" when all the government media only PRAISES him, how is that?

Because the world media tends to openly accept lies about him and not apologise when they are found wrong?
Also, the media in Ven wouldve probably gotten shut down for doing what it was doing in most any country.

If you like Fidel Castro you should know what he said when he was not a Dictator:

“Free Media is the worst enemy for a dictatorship regime”; that’s was truth then as it is now.

Things change for them when they become dictators. It is then when happens that the Media is biased and MUST be destroyed.

In the so-called Socialist regimes in South America these democrat tyrants have a lot of media for their own service. They call that media “Public media”. That public media was supposed to counteract or to balance the private media. That’s not the case in Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Argentina among other countries; they are using that media to LAY and PRAISE their regimes.

The difference is that the Public Media’s lies are paid with our taxes. Private media on the other hand has to support and survive on its own.

Can you notice the difference?
