April 7 (UPI) -- The United States and Iraq on Wednesday reached an agreement on the eventual withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from the nation.

In a joint statement following the conclusion of the third round of talks between the United States and Iraq known as the Strategic Dialogue -- the first two of which were conducted under the Trump administration -- the two sides agreed the U.S. military presence would begin to shift to a non-combat role.

"Based on the increasing capacity of the [Iraq Security Forces], the parties confirmed that the mission of U.S. and Coalition forces has now transitioned to one focused on training and advisory tasks, thereby allowing for the redeployment of any remaining combat forces from Iraq, with the timing to be established in upcoming technical talks," the statement said.

The statement went on to say that the transition of U.S. and other international forces away from combat operations "reflects the success of their strategic partnership" to combat the presence of the Islamic State terror group in Iraq.

COMMENT:-

It's nice to see the Iraqis agreeing to put a good face on what is essentially "We told you to get your troops out of our country and to restrict your actions to those that we have agreed to in advance - thank you for agreeing to do so.".

More evidence Trump is really president, pulling Biden's strings, maybe by using a poorly matched mask:

For a long time, I didn’t think it was going to be possible that any Administration would top the record of the Bush team.

Starting an unnecessary war in the wrong country, and then bungling it seemed to be about the worst job any Administration could do.

Then Donald Trump said, “hold my beer”!

and yet, according to the article, he started these talks.

The United States of America, through a number of administrations, has attempted to weld the disparate factions and tribes* in the territory called Iraq into a unified, functional democracy. At some point, the attempt must be judged in terms of probable success. There has been sufficient time elapsed for this judgment to now be made.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

* Some idea of the problems inherent can be seen in the two political 'tribes' -- the 'reds' and the 'blues' -- in the United States itself.

Dick Cheney cashed out his Halliburton stock......after he engineered that giant no bid contract.

(PS. KBR was known as “Kill ‘en, bury ’em, and replace them” to most of the hired help sent to do that work.
