Undisputed World #1 booted by Australian Tennis Association

well the governing body of tennis should set conditions on Australia to allow it to have such a prestigious tournament.
But the tournament will go on, just without it's egotistical champion.

I don't think the law should exist.

But it does. The decision is whether or not it applies to everyone. Even the wealthy and well connected.

why did London and Tokyo allow people to shoot handguns in the Olympics when British and Japanese citizens cannot own any such weapons?

I assume because the firearm is essential to the sport in which they are competing. I haven’t investigated but that seems like the common sense answer. Why do you ask?

the point is, the olympics were more important to those countries than their restrictive laws. I will leave it at that. I am not a fan of ND. Nadal's my favorite top player. If he is the first of the big three to get 21 Majors as a result (I don't think Roger can win at 5 set hard court events anymore) then I am happy. But I detest governments screwing with sport-such as the moron peanut farmer in 1980)

You are being silly. He wasn’t deported for bringing in a tennis racket.

As far as the rest, Australia has decided how they will face the pandemic and they have been incredibly successful if you actually care if human beings die or not. **** off back to Slovenia if you you want to be a diva.

I just love watching unquestioned support of government rules. I guess that is why I am a libertarian and you are a leftist

I bet you wish you could go back and edit the first post. Back when you though it was the Australian Tennis Association, and before you learned it was the Immigration Minister.

Surprised to see you in favor of Open Borders though. Got yourself in a bit of a tangle, haven't you? 😆

Leftist? I suppose anyone north of I10 is a Yankee to some.

I once heard libertarians described as house cats: convinced of their fierce independence while utterly dependent on a system they don’t appreciate or understand. Seems accurate.

you seem to worship government rules, without questioning them. You seem to put silly government rules ahead of the good of international sport. I think ND was stupid not the get the vaccination though. SO I don't have much sympathy for him. with all the traveling he does, it is moronic

He did not have Covid on Dec 16... he claims he had Covid, but why then did he attend a children's charity event on the 17th where he handed out gifts?

Also in most countries (not sure about Australia, but doubt they would require less) you can only enter the country 4 weeks after you have tested negative after Covid.

Point is, the math and evidence does not add up for Djokovic and his doctors note seems to be false.

Ah. I was not fully informed then. The bottom line for the Australian govt seems to be "he lied on his application" and the default penalty for that is a 3 year ban from entering Australia.

there will be an asterix-at least in the minds of fans-next to whomever wins the men's title this year.

Nonsense. You're just trying to make victims of them. Djoko chose not to attend when he lied on his visa application. If he didn't know being excluded was a consequence, then maybe he should fire his manager.

Your position still isn't clear. What exactly should government do for "the good of international sport" but without affecting international sports-people?

I think the Australian Tennis Association bears some of the blame. They should have investigated themselves whether Djoko would be eligible before giving him a seeded position.

I suspect the French Association will be just as tough. This could be the end of Djoko's career if he doesn't start following rules.

you might be right. or the international governing body might pull support for majors from those countries.

That doesn’t seem Leftist. Leftists question government rules all the time. They get into a great deal of trouble for it. Odd day, this day and what it’s about, to claim Leftists worship government rules.

the problem is-this sort of politics is not good in the long run. Another player-a lady doubles specialist, was also not able to play-she recently had been sick and couldn't get the vaccine. It also cheapens the title for whichever man wins the Australian.

Screw the title. What kind of self-entitled piece of crap figures he can do whatever he wants?

Look... if he's a dead-set anti-vaxxer, so be it. Stand by your convictions.

But accept the consequences of your actions. Don't think the world is going to bow to your wishes. He's as self-entitled as the last POS we had as President. The rules don't apply to him. ****'em both.

I knew the TDS crowd couldn't help itself

It's a valid comparison.

I hope France, England and the US don't let this self-entitled weasel into their Opens either. Not until he sees fit to follow the vaccination rules. And if he doesn't, I hope that's the end of his career.

Many time Australian Open Champion-and a man who has as good a claim to GOAT status as his great rivals, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, was denied an ability to defend his title over COVID protocols

LOL!!

That fella must have manure for his brains! Should have just got vaccinated!

So I guess he's not the champion anymore.

nope, he will be a nine time champion-perhaps the first athlete to get barred from defending his title for NOT taking a drug.
