Undernourished and the Obese

They both can be the product of bad choices. Always going for the burger, not the chicken. Skip the salad, have fries instead. Walking past the apple on the way to get more Doritos.

Like so much else in life, it's what you choose to do with the time and opportunities you're given.

(Edit: I'm speaking strictly within the US; world huger and nutrition issues are another matter.)
I get what you meant. It's accurate, imo.

I think the comment has to do with putting metal in the microwave.

yeah, I got that. Just not something that deflects much from the point,

I see you have no sense of humor. That being the case I didn't really put a can of soup in the microwave and neither did you despite your poorly worded anecdote.

Or maybe it was as a comment it was more stupid than clever.

Unless you serously think people buy fast food because they are too stupid to operate a microwave .

More probably you lack an understanding of nutrition.

the main point I understand is I control what I eat. If I ingest something be it food or drinkits not someone else’s fault.

Treating diet as something that happens to stupid people is incredibly demeaning.

Is this about food or the society we live in? How does that set us apart from other nations? Do we seek to nourish or pacify ourselves?
I understand that large parts of our nation live in a nutritionally poor neighborhood. That wouldn't explain affluence and obesity though.

That is not really much of an example compared to the death of millions due to starvation and related diseases. He is not giving the food away he is gaining government subsidies and pricing his food accordingly.
In contrast.

The problem is not with those who grow the food or those who feed people such as the restaurateur in your link. The problem is with those who profit from distributing food. An example of that is to ask anyone to rationalise the bendy banana law.

I see. Would capitalism be blamed for the hunger and deaths, then? In the cases your talking about. This case was pretty much government funded, kinda like a private socialism experiment?

I also read this long article

Is this what you mean?

I read most of it. Interesting. As slow as the process of creating the capitalistic machine was, is it what they call to big to fail, now......

Deep roots in every human, to eat meat, processed foods and sugars. Ever try and tell a meat eater, not to eat meat? They will literally kill you with their eyes, and eat you, in their mind. I prefer the trick of, theirs no meat in this dish I made. You will like it.....just try it!!

Ever think about starting a program that fills the void of feeding humans with the food they dispose of? Do most humans want to eat food that was going to be disposed? Fear in most humans keeps them away from this type of solution. I would hope if someone was hungry enough, a little brown spot would not matter. Only one way to find out, start a program, because the government isn’t on board yet. And Yes, capitalism is only concerned about profits.

Could this be a start? For those willing to take steps to feed others. Reduce waste. I think I might check it out. Thanks

This might help too.

maybe someone lawmakers care a little.

Interesting little factoid. According to worldometer we have twice as many overweight people (1.7 Billion) as those who are undernourished (850M), and roughly the same number of obese (750M).

I find that to be a very odd imbalance. But, it does suggest that well over half the people on the planet are fed just the right amount. So, we’ve kind of succeeded in solving global hunger..

What do you think all those fat welfare sad sacks are buying with their EBT cards at Burger King? Healthy meals????

NOT!

I'm listening to this book right now and it just had a chapter on the very many reasons people will over-eat knowing it's bad for them.

A couple of the reasons included:
--Impulse eating is a way to exert control in a life they otherwise feel they have no control over;
--Being overweight is a way to disappear in society, which is desirable for sexual abuse victims to not get hit on, and society won't expect as much from them which is attractive to those with abusive fathers who always told them they weren't good enough.
--Feeling bad from weight gain is covered up by more impulse eating, resulting in more weight gain, resulting in more impulse eating, etc.

It's a very good book on depression, highly recommended.

Like I said... I see you have no sense of humor. And your snark skills aren't very sharp either.

OK, well, opinions vary. I think my sense of humor is fine. I just have no use for this conversation.

I’m not a big fan of demeaning people’s intelligence. Or their sense of humor.

Regardless of all the yuks my point still stands Mr Jokey McJokerson. You can buy a can of soup for $2. I’m reasonably confident the people you look down on so much can handle a microwave. But if you can’t you can eat it cold I guess. No one eats at Burger King because it’s the cheapest option because.......it isn’t.

You're kind of disconnected from this conversation.

And yet you did both to me when you labeled my post as "more stupid than clever".

My point stands also. You can't heat up a can of soup in microwave.

I would rather blow my brains out than be a welfare loser.

I started out life on welfare......or AFDC back then. A hand up is a good thing, and I had 8 other siblings that grew up to be productive citizens.

Generational welfare does seem to be the trend with some families. I've known many.

Would you rather give them a gun, so they can do it.....

Come on, guy!!!! You have never taken anything for free? Did you take the stimulus money?

I see a lot of Right Wingers decry welfare who collect plenty from Social Security and government provided healthcare like Medicare. One small-government promoting poster constantly decries everything others receive as "socialism" and then brags about the free medical he receives for once having held a government job.

Hypocrisy knows no bounds on the Right.

OK, well then I guess we all should thank you for sharing this pearl of knowledge with the world and move on.

Thank you for your contribution in the fight against obesity and hunger.

We give the over nourished's food to the under nourished.

LOL! My wife and I didn't qualify for the stimulus money. You realize you would have to have an adjusted gross income below $160,000 (married filing jointly) to qualify, right?

I don't believe in giving anyone anything.

I never understood the anger of those living comfortably.

I never understood the anger of those living comfortably.

We are only angry when lazy losers demand taking away what we earned. OUR money is OUR money. A natural right.

The founding fathers applied a little twist to John Lock's "life, liberty, and the pursuit of PROPERTY" when they substituted "happiness for property. Now some sadsack losers believe they are entitled to "happiness" on the backs of other people, which is not what those natural rights are about.

I believe we are obese because of all the poison they feed everyone. Take a look at all the additives the food in your cabinets are infused with. Its not just cookies and treats that are junk food. Almost everything we eat in this country is junk.

Yeah, it takes a concerted effort to avoid junk. We do pretty good because the wife is a stay at home cook who makes most of our meals from scratch. However, whenever I travel, I almost always gain a few pounds, mostly due to salt and water retention. COVID has been a benefit though, since it forced me to take coolers filled with good food along so as to avoid venturing out to restaurants after working.
