UN list targets firms linked to Israeli settlements

JERUSALEM (AP) — The U.N. human rights office on Wednesday released a list of more than 100 companies it said are complicit in violating Palestinian human rights by operating in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank — a first-ever international attempt to name and shame businesses that has drawn fierce Israeli condemnation.

The list’s publication after repeated delays escalated a looming showdown between Israel and the international community over its more than half-century policy of building settlements in the West Bank. Emboldened by a new U.S. Mideast initiative, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to annex Israel’s more than 100 settlements, while the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague has indicated she will soon launch a war-crimes investigation into settlement policies.
=========================================================
The whip was in the other hand during the Holocaust but now it rests easily in Israeli hands. Despite their promises to the Palestinians when Israel was founded by the UN in the late 1940s, the Israelis are now the abusers & thieves, stealing from the Palestinians as if it is their right to do so.

One more reason to dissolve the organization that has become the tool for antisemites known as the United Nations. As if we needed more.

The UN antisemitic? They took land away from the Palestinians & gave it to the Jews. That's hardly antisemitic. Now it's prosmitic & taking land away from the Palestinians.

Jews makes about 0.2% of the world's population.
It's completely absurd how a body claiming to set the international agenda is having its entire existence revolve around the promotion of antisemitism.

You shoudn't be shocked by the accusation imo. Anyone any group that comments on the crimes of the Jewish state is by definition antisemitic

You cannot claim to be free from criticism or accountability just because you are Jewish as much as you think that should be the case.

And Israel has been giving the UN the finger since they were fool enough to allow them into the organisation. That ain't gonna endear you to the organisations membership

It is a catch-22...

I actually think its worse than that. It's the use of false allegations of racism to ward off legitimate criticism and accountability for crimes committed

Hopefully the reaction to Trumps ridiculous and arrogant intervention will see a backlash on many fronts. The naming and shaming of companies benefiting from the ongoing mass violations of the Palestinians is a welcome boon. The possibility of Israel facing accountability for its war crimes is long overdue. The ICC should go through the many reports already existing and start to make cases for abuses/crimes on both sides, there's enough evidence to make decent cases on both

Israel has simply been an excuse for antisemites worldwide and the UN's antisemitic agenda for decades now.
It's all about the antisemitic agenda. Jew hatred became the most important purpose of a clownish organization pretending to be the voice of every nation on Earth.

I don't think that is the case.
I think you want to masquerade antisemitism behind anti-Israeli notions for obvious reasons and you're far from alone in that agenda.

It absolutely is the case

Antisemitism is the card used to try to fend off that legitimate criticism and call for some sort of accountability and it is actually a perversion of the term so as to serve that purpose

Anti-Semitism has been overused and misused.

Just as Anti-Zionist is often Anti-Semitism in sheep's clothing.

One only needs to look for the people who make this claim and see that they themselves are guilty of making antisemitic statements, sometimes not even relating to anything Israeli.

UN Human Rights Committee manned by despots and dictators of the worst kind, find fault with Israel. Surprise!!!

United Nations = Anti-Israel

It's a broad brush smear, no more no less

Just as Anti-Zionist is often Anti-Semitism in sheep's clothing.

And pro Israeli is often anti Arab/anti Muslim

The UN is just providing information about what firms are connected to commercial and manufacturing activities in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. The State of Israel is angry because such information allows global consumers and investors to make informed decisions about whether or not to buy or invest in these Israeli companies. The State of Israel is concerned that such information could be used by consumers and investors sympathetic to a global BDS movement to punish Israeli and foreign firms for doing business with firms operating out of illegal settlements in the Occupied Territories.

I support such a policy of transparency in the service of a free market where its players are free to make fully informed decisions. So, is support for freedom of information and a free market an act of anti-Semitism? The State of Israel makes decisions but does not want to live with the consequences of those decisions, so it brands releasing information as anti-Semitism. I say that on this claim the State of Israel and its supporters who likewise claim this are full of "it". Actions have consequences and the State of Israel cannot sweep its actions under the rug of anti-Semitism in order to relieve itself of the consequences for what it does to its neighbours and those it occupies.

Criticism of the State of Israel based on that state's policies or its agents' actions is not in itself anti-Semitism. It hasn't been since 1948 and in my opinion it will never be so.

Cheers.
Evilroddy.

It is also a peaceful way to put pressure on Israel to make a good faith agreement offering an end to the violations of the Palestinians and thus the violence against Israelis those violations engender.

I would also only add that the misuse of the term " antisemitism " in order to describe anything critical of or against Israeli state policies and actions actually undermines what is a very important term in the fight against genuine racism/xenophobia.
