UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. -- A man who claimed he received a hate-filled, racist letter from an anonymous person allegedly wrote the letter himself, Hermiston Police say. Chief Jason Edmiston tells Action News that the criminal investigation for Intimidation in the Second Degree due to the racist, hate-filled letter received by Mr. Jonathan Lopez on 6/23/20, has been closed. The matter will be referred this week, to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for Initiating a False Report. Initiating a False Report is a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon.

Here is my take on this; There are very real racism issues in our nation, and crap like this only serves to inflame the problems and detract from focusing on actual incidents....in addition it will give people a reason to question valid complaints and provide fodder for hate based supremacy groups.

Just my two cents.

There are a lot of people that join various movements because they want to belong to something and because they want kinship that they aren't getting elsewhere. Their lack of self-esteem drives a deep emotional response that isn't dramatically different than "Stockholm Syndrome" and, if they lack a tangible connection to the cause, they sometimes feel a need to create one just so they fit in.

Crap like this trolling OP only serves to inflame the problems and detract from focusing on actual (racial) incidents.

If there's so much racism, why do people have to lie about it?

Trolling because its uncomfortable for you?
Because it is a problem?
Because it was brought to light?
Because refusing to acknowledge that it does occur is inconvenient?

We have problems in this country; refusing to acknowledge all sides of the problem is willful blindness.

Do these fake racism hoaxes ever work?

Seems like people would pick up on that.

Its less about the hoax working, and more about the damage they cause in further polarizing our nation....there are enough people like Susan Smith and Patricia Ripley in the world, there is no need to add any self inflicted false flag narrative to the mix.

This will be another "fake but true" scenario, like the NOOSECAR hoopla.

They do when half the country believes that a “compelling story” that fits their world view is more important than the facts on the ground.

No fake anything works.

No fake claims of cancer or other illness. No fake claims of "I gave money to this homeless man, now let's all give me money". No fake claims of "someone broke into my business and vandalized it so now I need insurance money". These things have been happening forever and they will continue to happen. This one is no different than the other fake claims.

Believe the victim culture doesn’t make a distinction between real and fabricated incidents. You should expect pushback when the prevailing progressive opinion is that accusations deserve to be believed merely for having been made. That philosophy and fake hate crimes are the problem not the OP.

Lol I can hear it now. "Yeah, well, he may have written the phony letter but he was right to do it because that's the way racists think. And there have been other letters that have been real. Just because we don't have any and we can't find any doesn't mean that there weren't any." Thanks!!

By the time they're found false, everyone has moved on and forgot about the case to begin with. Or it gets ignored because "well it started a conversation." Doesn't help on top of people jumping to conclusions, the news feeds into it for views/ratings, and if they get it wrong it's oh well, we'll take the story down or add a correction (or bury the new story because no one cares anymore).

Just my two cents.

The demand for racism in the US far exceeds the supply. Thus the abundance of fabrications.

Explain what exactly you mean by "trolling OP".

What about it is trolling?

Trolling because its uncomfortable for you?
Because it is a problem?
Because it was brought to light?
Because refusing to acknowledge that it does occur is inconvenient?

This is one single incident. YOU are the one making an OP about it that serves to distract from real racism issues, which you don’t bother to say what they are. You’re advertising the dang thing. There’s no purpose to your OP. Hence, trolling. Meanwhile, the cons on this forum refuse to accept systemic racism is part of our legal system, including law enforcement, and refuse to accept the fact of cops historically killing unarmed black people. White males in the US complaining about being discriminated against vs blacks. But that would be another side of another problem that would hijack this thread…

What evidence do you have of "fake hate crimes are the problem" of any significance? The OP is about one single incident that does not represent any history of similar cases. Making something out of what is insignificant.

Because its much better to pretend such things do not happen and actually cause harm?
Its not a "single incident", and its just as damaging to those attempting to address actual incidents of racism by undermining the validity of racisms existence.

The virulent response you present to the OP, and your attempt to dismiss the problem as "trolling" is nothing more than a not so subtle effort to silence anyone that brings it into the light.

How this OP makes you feel is a matter for you to work through; your feels are not my problem.

Jussie Smollett was significant.
