The little fascist has banned the opposition parties and shut down 3 TV stations that were critical of him. This was in effect since before Putin's invasion, but now Zelensky has made it official.
Such a great hero of "democracy"
If this is "democracy", then what does autocracy from him look like?

Ukraine suspends 11 political parties with links to Russia

Eleven Ukrainian political parties have been suspended because of their links with Russia, according to the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

The country’s national security and defence council took the decision to ban the parties from any political activity. Most of the parties affected were small, but one of them, the Opposition Platform for Life, has 44 seats in the 450-seat Ukrainian parliament.

“The activities of those politicians aimed at division or collusion will not succeed, but will receive a harsh response,” Zelenskiy said, in a video address on Sunday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has banned 11 opposition parties, including left-wing parties and those with suspected ties to the Kremlin. The country’s national security and defence council ordered the 11 parties, which includes the Opposition Platform — For Life, Ukraine’s largest opposition party, from conducting any political activity. The party has 44 seats in the 450-seat Ukrainian parliament.

Nothing like the murderous war criminal Putin.

He has also announced that he will discuss ceding Crimea and Donbas, but it must go to a national referendum first to see if the people agree it's worth it.

He is protecting the people's voice.

Imagine that...banning parties that have connections to the nation that is invading you!

I bet there were loads of German and Japanese orgs here in the US that were banned or heavily restricted before and definitely after Pearl Harbor!

None of the parties are even represented in Parliament. Noise makers.

Unfortunately in our country we have to deal with fans of ISIS and other terrorist countries running around spreading bullshit. I guess the price you pay for first amendment, rich powerful people can spread propaganda and dupe people into harming the country, as well as foreign enemies

Did that happen for Serbia on Kosovo?
I don't remember the United States or NATO holding such a referendum across Serbia. Perhaps you could job my memory on that.

Ukraine is in a state of war and these groups have links to the enemy. They're only suspended for the period of maritime law anyway, they didn't get banned forever.

They are in a state of war. They should ban pro-Russia groups that promote propaganda for Putin

Also funny the Guardian says nothing about Nazi groups but the Rebel does? 1647980998415.gif

What exactly are their connections, pray tell?

That they are Russians? Because Russians have always lived in Ukraine. They have as much claim to the local soil as anyone else. One third of Ukraine's population are ethnically Russian.
There were Russians living on that soil long before there was even a United States of America.

Who the hell are you to call them foreigners, or brand their ethnic feelings as foreign-created?

I bet there were loads of German and Japanese orgs here in the US that were banned or heavily restricted before and definitely after Pearl Harbor!

Whataboutery.

"I bet there were loads of German and Japanese" - says the foreigner unwittingly, without basic knowledge of American history (ie. the internment of Japanese)

Uhh, that's a badge of shame, not an example to be cited for emulation.

So you're saying that Zelensky did in fact ban Nazi groups, just because Rebel said he didn't??
All news sources on this story have identically state which groups he banned, and none of them mention bans on any Neo-Nazi groups, so it's pretty reasonable to say that he didn't include them in his ban, just as he didn't include the Swedish Bikini Team in his ban. But rather than accept that reasonable fact, you instead stoop to Whataboutery over the name of the source, to deflect away from the facts?

The Rebel news made it appear nefarious as if he supports Neo-Nazis and seems to me you were implying it by posting the article and you called him a fascist. It is clear they are a click bait source. Sorry you didn't get understand what you were posting and appear to be helping Russia spread propaganda

As far as Zelensky banning pro-Russia groups; they are at war and he sure doesn't need any more Russian propaganda so his decision was appropriate in this situation

Sounds like offering concessions to me.

Zelensky's bans had been in effect since before Putin's invasion -- it's just that he's now made it official.
So what was the excuse back then? If anything, those bans could have aggravated the likelihood of war, because they were the latest in a the pattern of repression against Russian minorities.

Ukraine never existed as a country before the breakup of the USSR. Right up to WW2, the western half of the country west of the Dniepr river was Poland, the eastern half of the country east of the Dniepr river was USSR/Russia. Both Poland and Russia referred to their respective halves as their "outer lands" -- the word "Ukraine" means the "outer lands", and that's where the name comes from.

So how the hell have you decided that the Russians of eastern Ukraine are the foreigners, while the inhabitants of the formerly Polish western half are the "real Ukrainians"?
Get over yourself, you armchair-googling tourist.

I hope he bans eleven more, and then another eleven after that.

Uh……

Russia is invading Ukraine, in case you haven’t noticed.

Double standards are double standards. The selectivity of the ban was certainly worthy of mention. So parties representing ethnic Russians (one third of the population) are branded as outside of political acceptability, while others are not.
It's like Britain selectively banning Sinn Fein from Northern Ireland, where a huge chunk of the population was Catholic.

As far as Zelensky banning pro-Russia groups; they are at war and he sure doesn't need any more Russian propaganda so his decision was appropriate in this situation

So basically, Western Ukraine is the "real Ukraine" but Eastern Ukraine is "fake illegitimate Moscow-poisoned Ukraine"? Gotta make everything look like the West, huh?

If Ukrainian citizens of Russian decent are supporting Russia then they are traitors.

Uh……

Russia is invading Ukraine, in case you haven’t noticed.

Because the US installed its own govt in Kyiv in 2014, turning it into a bulwark against Russia right on its doorstep.
How did the US react to Soviet missiles in Cuba? The US was ready to start WW3 over that. The US didn't care that Cuba and Moscow were engaging in voluntary mutual cooperation, because the US felt threatened by that, and was ready to wage war over it. US tried to invade Cuba multiple times.

US also invaded Serbia, in case you hadn't noticed.
US invaded Iraq too.
Afghanistan had no jihadists, until the US spent billions of dollars creating them in the 80s. What do you call that?

Your reasoning: "When I invade someone, it's all good. When someone else does it, then it's bad"

If Ukrainian citizens of Russian decent are supporting Russia then they are traitors.

Why are they traitors? When people in western Ukraine say they want to join EU or NATO, then how come that's not being a traitor?
Why are you so one-sided and selectively biased?
