Ukraine-Russia crisis live news...

For some of us who are armchair observers of the passing parade, there's an event that has yet to happen.

We've seen the representative of this or that nation make the trip to Moscow and talk with President [for life] Vladimir Putin or a member of his cabinet.

What we've yet to see is someone make the trek as the representative of NATO.

That level of unity is yet lacking.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

Interesting observation!

Putin invades. What now; are we anticipating escalation to a wider European conflict? As someone once said, 'we live in interesting times'.
First Obama gets punked as Putin takes Crimea, now Obama's flunky Biden gets the same punking & pluking from Putin as he takes Ukraine .
Why do despots like Putin always take advantage when weak quislings like Biden are in office ?

Nobody is getting 'punked'. This is an extremely delicate and dangerous situation. What did you expect Biden to do, exactly-declare war maybe?

Yes. It's extremely complex and it has been in the works for probably as long as Putin has been thinking/ scheming.

Why would I want to join you there?
I don’t support Russian aggression in Ukraine.

And I’m not blaming the US President for hostilities that are happening 1/2 way around the world.

I hope that Europe and America can put enough sanctions on Russia to make Putin rethink his effort.

Hi, Eatomus!

It may depend upon what sort of frame you wish to place around the event.

Seen one way, Russia is simply taking the concept of 'America First!' that was promulgated by a recent US administration and made it into 'Russia First!'

It should be noted that the quantity of world territory available for nationalization is fixed, excepting only small amounts reclaimed from the sea. This means that the apportionment is, and will continue to be, a zero-sum game.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

How about those severe consequences--sanctions--Joe has been talking about?

Diplomacy; not wanting to antagonise Putin any more than necessary?
He has put his miserable military in Donbass after clicking his heels together three times and saying Ukraine doesn't really exist. And we're worried about antagonizing him?

Putin being a dictator, having long made obvious his expansion ambitions, having met nothing but ankle-biter pushback, has been given no reason to stop his expansion efforts. The serious economic harm that could have been started against Russia much earlier have not yet happened. Putin will not stop with Ukraine, having 17% Russians, maybe 35% in the east, no more than he stopped in Crimea, having 59% Russians, just as Hitler did not stop with Czechoslovakia, with 22% pre-WW2 Germans. Putin will not stop because nobody is giving him any reason to stop. Words mean nothing unless backed up with the truth of action. Especially to a dictator and even more so a dictator like Putin.

Why tf not?
You have to ask him. He's not following through with the severe sanctions he said he would if Russia invaded. He's doing that to please Putin

Another Obama red line moment

Well, like I said, I've corresponded with him now, so those sanctions should be coming forthwith.
