Scientists in the UK have grown a partial heart from stem cells, and say that whole hearts will be able to be grown within 10 years. This milestone will have a huge impact on the science of heart transplants - Nobody dying while waiting for a transplant, and NO REJECTION.

Sometime in the future, life expectancy could climb to well over 100 years, thanks to stem cell research, as body parts will be replaced as routinely as the parts on one's car.

Things like this make me proud of humanity, and give me hope that we may not annihilate ourselves before getting off this planet, and away from the dangerously dogmatic who would oppose such progress, and take joy in Armageddon.

Overpopulation is going to be an understatement.

Overpopulation is going to be an understatement.

I happen to believe that this planet has its own population control devices (disease, global warming, birth rates.) But you are quite right, we are making it far too easy to survive.

I also believe that the planet has it's own population control devices... but what we have been doing is turning them off.

Actually industrialization is the greatest population control device. Despite high western life expectancy, most western countries have growth that is close to zero. Population growth occurs in countries where the kind of technology isn't used anyway. Simply promoting smaller families and contraception are by far the most effective means of keep the population in check.

I would think it to be quite the contrary. It seems to me that industrialization has made it so that populations could grow unrestrained by previous economic concerns.

Promoting these things is a oversimplified solution. What do you do when ministers are preaching the sinfulness of condom use?

Look the population growth rates of industrialized countries compared to non-industrialized ones, and you will find I am correct. The EU as a whole is about .15 per year. World average is about 1.14.

I agree its oversimplified, I just don't really have a comprehensive plan lined up.
