U.S. Senate approves bill that would make Daylight Savings Time permanent in 2023

Finally!!!!!! Although think it should take place sooner. Oh well...... better late than never

WASHINGTON, March 15 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate voted unanimously on Tuesday to make Daylight Savings Time permanent, a move supporters say would make winter afternoons brighter and end the twice changing of clocks.

The measure still needs approval from the U.S. House of Representatives and the backing of President Joe Biden. On Sunday, most of the United States resumed Daylight Savings Time, moving ahead one hour. The United States will resume standard time in November 2022.

Senator Marco Rubio said after input from airlines and broadcasters that supporters agreed that the change would not take place until November 2023.

Works for me, I hate switching back and forth.

If the DST bill becomes law, Arizona here will need to move from the Mountain Time Zone to the Pacific Time Zone.

kids in the future...

"teacher, are you saying they use to just change the clocks??"

They don't want everyone to have to change their clocks again. Everyone's already used to the schedule so the next change would be the last under this bill. And let's just hope that this passes because the clock switching is so stupid.

EDIT: To clarify, they want the extra evening hour to be the norm, so there will be two more clock switches, with next March being the last.

EDIT 2: Actually it says the change wouldn't take place until November 2023? No idea why. I was completely wrong. So we'd lose an hour in the evening? That sucks.
Agree

Europe nor the Middle East use day light savings. It has no place in the modern world.

Where would I move to?
The Kahala Hotel & Resort, Oahu, Hawaii

Arizona would be able to stay on Standard time year round, which would essentially put this state to the Pacific Time Zone.

Two states have passed measures to stay on standard time — Arizona and Hawaii. Both congressional bills would allow states to stay on standard time if they adopted the time change before the Sunshine Protection Act went into effect.

As someone who has an extensive collection of 37 watches I welcome this. What a pain, in addition to appliances.

I like the going back and forth. And if we had to switch, I want the other one, where you have the extra hour of sunlight in the morning (so staying standard time, not DST I think it is). I like having my kids going to school with light outside in the winter, but I also like having the extra hour of light during the summer evenings.
Like going back and forth? I'm gonna have to report this post now

I detest DST, put it on standard time and keep it there, do you really want children walking to school in the dark?
Yeah, why not just keep it on standard time all year? Makes no sense to me to ever be on DST, or change clocks.

I agree with this. You would think because Florida is the southern-most continental state, moving from Ohio made winter days longer. Nope - sunset is still early at the beginning and end of each year.

In case people are wondering, Arizona and Hawaii are the two states that do not honor DST. This is a problem in Arizona because one of its Native American tribes does honor it and Hoover Dam is right on the border with Nevada. I went to Hoover Dam once. On the property, there are two grandfather clocks - one in each state - that are sometimes the same and sometimes an hour apart.

Oh it was a good time .. . and if i recall correctly this went on for at least a year or two he made these claims and was dead serious . . .it was mind-boggling somebody could be that stupid but also type

Be careful there. I know a learning-disabled person who types because she can't talk or write.

Good, I hate time change. What's holding this up in the house. This is purely non-political. Get it passed and signed

LOL, so much hatred...

Just for this, I'm going to work harder to convince more people to write to their congressmembers to request that they pass a bill to make standard time the new normal, which would conflict with the Senate bill, causing chaos to ensue as they fight back and forth about which should be the time we go to.

You know who does this? A socialist..

We need mod action now!

Technically anything that reaches the house or senate is political. Standing for the pledge is political.

I was thinking an anarchist, or follower of Ian Malcolm. Embrace the chaos.

Yeah but we label everything we don't like as socialism these days.
