The United States has prepared contingency military aid in the event of further Russian military incursions into Ukraine, the White House has said. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement on June 18 that recent U.S. media reports that the United States held back security assistance to Ukraine were "nonsense." "The idea that we have held back security assistance to Ukraine is nonsense. Just last week -- in the run-up to the U.S.-Russia summit -- we provided a $150 million package of security assistance, including lethal assistance," Psaki said in her statement. "We have also prepared contingency funds in the event of a further Russian incursion into Ukraine," she added. "As President Biden told President [Vladimir] Putin directly, we will stand unwavering in support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity." The United States has provided more than $2.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since 2014, when Russia forcibly seized Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and backed separatists in the east, sparking a war that has killed more than 13,000 people. Earlier this month, the Pentagon announced a $150 million package to Ukraine of "defensive lethal assistance," including counter-artillery radars, communications and electronic warfare equipment, and counter-drone systems. In March, the Pentagon announced another tranche of $125 million, including additional armed Mark VI patrol boats. The assistance comes from funds already committed by Congress for the U.S. government's fiscal year that ends in September.

This military assistance to Ukraine is vital in checking Russian hegemony in Eastern Europe.

If Russia did further invade Ukraine, military supplies would also pour in from the Baltic States, Poland, and Romania.

Declarations of intentions mean nothing to tank platoon or a battery of artillery. And promises of help to Ukraine but only "if you really need it after it is too late" don't dissuade invasions and occupations. There is nothing here but the filling of the airwaves and cyberspace with the empty assurances of fragile frado (fake bravado).

As the Washington Post has reported, there are two factions within the administration, one side are those Democrats who are still seething over Russia's interference in the elections and Trump's weasel talk apologisms for Putin, and the other which have reverted to the historic "norm" for the liberal wing...a policy more befitting that of Jimmy Carter. The "norm" side has won- Nordstream sanctions trash canned, and the 100m dollar military aid to the Ukraine now suspended indefinitely.

There is no way to gild this Lilly. Putin now has a pipeline that will finance Russia even if they invade Ukraine, 80,000 Russian military forces are still on the border of Ukraine, and those military personnel that have drawn somewhat back have left their heavy equipment preposition and ready for reoccupation in hours.

Ukraine needs aid NOW, not weeks (or months) after a major war is nearing its conclusion.

Pathetic.

It really doesn’t matter, for several reasons.

1) Putin will not invade Ukraine proper. He already has the Crimea, which is Russia inhabited by Russians, reunified. And he has satellite Republics in the Donbas which form a buffer zone between Kiev and Russia’s interests. Ukraine doesn’t have the military capacity to do anything about this and no European country’s will sacrifice their young men to force Russians to be Ukrainians against their will. So Putin has what he wants

2) if Kiev is dumb enough to start a war with Russia, and for some unknown reason NATO countries decide to intervene, they cannot out enough forces on the battlefield fast enough to halt a Russian advance, and once Russia seizes new territory they will be favored as defense is easier then offense

3) The democrats do not want a losing war with Russia in the public minds in 2024

4) Russia is still suffering from sanctions, and Europe is finally coming to unofficially accept that Kiev is never ever getting the Russian territory they once occupied back, they will complete Nordstrean, sign new trade deals, buy more Russian goods and as years go by relations with Russia will normalize.

Putin has nothing to gain from starting a war.

What nonsense!

The United States is not going to do anything but say "Russia, you are being very naughty. Shame on you!"

And the Czar will just gobble up the rest of Ukraine.

There will be a few sanctions.

And then the world will forget it, just as it has forgotten the seizure of the Crimea.

The West is weak and divided -- just as it was before Herr Hitler attacked Poland.

Everyone is afraid for Taiwan. They should be! I doubt that many Americans want American service members dying for the Taiwanese. (Dang! Some nation should have the guts to put both Russia & China in their place!)

I miss the good old days when nations shook in their boots when the United States spoke.

The thing is.....even in the 1930s nobody “shook in their boots when America spoke”. The American military was seen as a joke.

Even Portugal had a larger army.

Those days never existed outside of the fantasies of juvenile boys.

Trump is gone. But he kept his knee-pads just in case.

Says the dude who was doing cartwheels when Trump sent Ukraine a few Javelin's.

Actually, "says the dude" who has always supported far more aide than any administration has provided to date, and who doesn't knee-jerk criticize an action that they would otherwise support but for their seething hatred of Trump.

As in prior posts, your support of Ukraine has the fragility of a glass menagerie. See a reflection of trump (or Maxparrish) in your collection and you shatter it.
