For decades, a so-called anti-propaganda law prevented the U.S. government's mammoth broadcasting arm from delivering programming to American audiences. But on July 2, that came silently to an end with the implementation of a new reform passed in January. The result: an unleashing of thousands of hours per week of government-funded radio and TV programs for domestic U.S. consumption in a reform initially criticized as a green light for U.S. domestic propaganda efforts. So what just happened?

I don't know, it sounds like the story of propaganda has some propaganda in it, what say you?

Socialism! Private corporations are much more efficient and effective at providing propaganda services.

About time. So much for free speech eh? It always amazes me the American paranoia about "government", and total ignorance or acceptance of the abuse of power by big corporations. Ohh the big bad government must not be allowed to protect the people from lies.. but no problem that 4 companies own all the major media in the US and all pretty much support one party.. no problem with that!

The problem is, those companies have already done away with actual journalism and this will further erode active reporting. Does anyone remember the Bush admin scandal involving fake news conferences? These "news outlets" frothed at the idea that they didn't have to pay to produce those stories.

What we need are standards for what qualifies as news vs propaganda/entertainment.

You really make some silly ass assumptions, you know? What makes you think you're correct?

So you believe the Government ran media will lean right in the US? Interesting.

You do this literally every single day regarding what you think liberals believe. Just ponder that.

What's the big deal, exactly? This stuff is already being broadcast around the world. Now we will be able to see what is actually being said to other countries. Its not like other media is being banned. Regardless, does anything think that the current media is not just one big propaganda machine already?

The biggest assumption on this thread is that the government and corporations are not one and the same.
