BAGHDAD - The U.S. military has cleared a soldier of unlawfully killing an Iraqi civilian after investigators concluded Specialist Nathan Lynn had reason to believe the man was carrying a gun when he opened fire.

Charges were brought against Lynn last month at a time when several murder investigations into U.S. troops in Iraq have prompted questions about their behavior and complaints from the new Iraqi government about a culture of impunity among soldiers.

“The commander ... has withdrawn ... the charges,” a military spokesman said on Saturday. “He is now authorized to rejoin his unit in Pennsylvania.”

Lynn, a 21-year-old Pennsylvania National Guardsman, was accused of voluntary manslaughter and conspiracy to obstruct justice over the death of Gani Ahmed Zaben during a raid on a suspect’s house in the western city of Ramadi on Feb. 15.

I wonder if this is one of our soldiers that Murtha said was guilty before they were even charged with the crime......

I wonder if this story will get as much attention in the mainstream media as say......abu ghraib?

It certainly should. According to Bigdog the media has no bias.

Its not news to them, hell really any of them....

When a soilder does his or her job, then it aint news. The same goes for firemen, policemen, doctors and so on.. part of life get over it.

When a soilder possibly abuses his or her job then its the start of news and very few media outlets convict a soilder before a trial.

Of course right wing warmongers will claim they do, but at no time has any mainstream media outlet said these soilders were guilty .. quite the opposite in fact.

Therefore when a soilder is cleared of wrong doing chances are there is not gonna be much media coverage unless its a typical military white wash and even then its not certain that the media care. They after all know how wacked out military justice is these days... the Abu G trials showed that.

however, when a soldier does his job, and is WRONGLY ACCUSED of doing an injustice.....and is then cleared, IT IS NEWS.

or it should be.

I understand there are those that want the good to be ignored, while wanting the bad to be publicly discussed constantly due to political bias. its unfortunate they exist....but I certainly understand WHY they exist.

a soldiers reputation being cleared is CERTAINLY news worthy. at least to those of us that truly support them.
