Two recent stories on sentences related to involvement in killing of Iraqi civilians:

"U.S. Marine sentenced to 21 months in Iraq death"
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., Nov 16 (Reuters) - A U.S. Marine who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and conspiracy to obstruct justice in the shooting death of an Iraqi man near the town of Hamdania was sentenced on Thursday to 21 months in prison under a deal with prosecutors.

Lance Cpl. Tyler Jackson earlier this month became the third military defendant to plead guilty to charges stemming from the shooting death of 52-year-old Hashim Ibrahim Awad, a former Iraqi policeman, and will testify for the prosecution.

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., Nov 16 (Reuters) - Nov 15 (Reuters) - A U.S. Marine who admitted a role in the killing of an Iraqi grandfather in Hamdania was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Wednesday under the terms of a plea deal.

The Marine, John Jodka, the second defendant sentenced in the April 26 murder of Hashim Ibrahim Awad, last month pleaded guilty of charges of assault and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

It is interesting to see how different news sources headline these stories -- not always in the way I would have expected from the source.

It was the same man that died in both instances right?

Interesting how in the first article he is an "Iraqi" who "died" and in the second article he's a "grandfather" who was "murdered".

What I find interesting (and disgusting) is that these men will serve less than 2 years for premeditated murder.

It can't help but send the message that Iraqi lives have little value to us.

That's one of the driving factors on the Iraq war is to "fight them other there". We are using Iraq as a battle ground so that their country will crumble and their civilians will die rather then American's.

Republican's are obviously quite the humanitarians.
