It betrays a fundamental failure to recognize or understand the existence of important U.S. interests in the Middle East.
Oh, I never denied we have vital interests in the Middle East. I just said that we have been perennial useful idiots for decades to our own detriment and the detriment of our allies.
There is no credible evidence that he hates Jewish people. Although I strongly disagreed with the pressure he placed on Israel in the past, such pressure does not automatically mean he "hates Jews."
Unfortunately, the preponderance of his actions and the many anti-Semitic Jew hating and Israel bashing friends and advisors he keeps prove otherwise I’m afraid.
There is no evidence whatsoever that the U.S. would "blame Israel" if Iran attains nuclear weapons.
According to whom? You. Obama has been trying to set up the narrative to blame Israel for Iran acquiring nukes since the minute he took office.
Israel's security improved when Egypt ended its confrontation with Israel.
Come on, Egypt didn’t have any other choice. It was soundly defeated twice by Israel and if it wanted the Sinai back it had to make peace with Israel. The only reason Israel like a fool agreed to a formal peace agreement with Egypt is because it deluded itself into thinking that it could work out, but as everyone has seen, Egypt is still more enemy than friend and ally. Indeed, the Israelis call it a cold uneasy peace. While you may think Israel’s better off today because of the Hudna, I’m not quite so sure. I mean the Sinai made for a pretty good security buffer, plus there was a lot of oil and minerals that Israel could have exploited. In fact, I seriously doubt Israel is better off today.
Israel's security improved further when Jordan entered into a peace agreement.
With respect to Jordan, after the 1967 debacle there is no way King Hussein would even have ever risked challenging Israel again. Hence, Israel gained absolutely nothing from formalizing peace with Jordan, as there peace is also a cold uneasy peace. Of course, all three countries reaped a windfall from the USA.
Not to mention that as soon as the political winds change again, both countries, Egypt and Jordan could quickly morph again into mortal enemies of Israel.
If the West Bank agrees to peace (assuming Hamas thwarts the Gaza's joining an agreement), another contribution to Israel's security would be made.
Dream on. Even if they agreed to peace, they would start launching rockets as soon as the dust cleared.
The number of terrorist attacks that originated in Egypt or Jordan since peace has been reached has been minimal.
Actually, since the Egyptians second decisive defeat in 1973, the terrorist attacks emanating from Egypt had been stopped, and since Black September they had stopped emanating from Jordan as well. Hence, there were no terrorist attacks emanating from either country at the time each peace deal was concluded.
There is no automatic guarantee that frequent terrorist attacks would originate in the West Bank.
Yeah…that’s what you guys said when you were urging Sharon to abandon Gaza and also what you guys said when you urged Ehud Barak to exit Southern Lebanon. You guys were wrong then and you will be wrong again.
Peace, if it is based on accommodation of the parties' core needs (and Israel's security is a core need), does not translate into weakening Israel's position.
The so-called Palestinians won’t agree to any deal unless Israel agrees to return to the pre 1967 Auschwitz indefensible borders including in East Jerusalem and also with Israel agreeing to accept the millions of permanent so-called Palestinian refugees from surrounding countries flooding Israel to become new residents and citizens. No it wouldn’t weaken Israel, it would only destroy it.
If the mentality that "peace = weakening a country's position" were prevalent, peace agreements would not be reached and a much less stable geopolitical situation would exist.
It is weakening Israel’s position. Please explain in what ways the Oslo peace process has helped strengthen Israel’s position? The reality is the Oslo peace process has been the biggest strategic blunder Israel has ever made in its history. Give me a break. Israel is far worse off today than it was before the so-called Oslo peace process.
No one is asking Israel to capitulate.
Not much. Obama hasn’t stopped bashing, pressuring, and coercing Israel since he became President!
Fears that peace would weaken Israel, assuming Israel negotiates a framework that safeguards its core needs, are far-fetched.
There is no peace possible, the jihad against Israel, just like every other jihad in the world, both hot and cold, and there are indeed a lot of them, is permanent. Peace is impossible.
