There were reasons to doubt the story from the start. Not only did the initial stories emphasize its basis on detainee reporting, but the bounties represented a qualitative shift in recent Russian engagements with Afghan insurgents. Russian operatives have long been suspected of moving money to various Afghan militants: an out-of-favor former Taliban official told The Daily Beast on the record that Russia gave them cash for years. But the Russians had not been suspected of sponsoring attacks on U.S. forces outright – an escalation that risked confrontation with the U.S., and occurring long after it could have made a difference in the war.

Again, this is how the left operates. They make knowingly false claims when it's convenient, then when it's not, they deny that they even made those claims. It's beyond dishonest.

If U.S. intelligence reports X to the media, then the media will report about X. In the same way, when Trump made one of his tens of thousands of false statements, the media reported on them. When Trump claimed that the United States had invisible airplanes, really invisible airplanes, ones that you really, truly can't see, the media reported on Trump's belief that the United States had created invisible airplanes. And when Trump suggested that U.S. citizens inject disinfectant into their bodies in order to destroy Covid, the media reported that, too.

One gets tired of morons and hacks dishonestly attributing dishonesty to "the left" or the media instead, when U.S. intelligence and U.S. intelligence alone changes their story at a later date. Clearly, the rational option is to choose to view U.S. intelligence reports with greater skepticism.

By the way, what happened to the intelligent conservatives? I feel like they're all embarrassed and hiding under the same rock.
