WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. economic growth will slow this year to 2.3 percent from 3.1 percent in 2018, as the stimulative effects of President Donald Trump’s tax cuts wane and the federal budget deficit climbs to nearly $900 billion, congressional researchers said on Monday.

In its latest 10-year budget and economic outlook, the Congressional Budget Office said 2019 economic growth will also be affected by a projected slowdown in federal government purchases in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Luckily for most Americans, the turn over of the House to the Dems means that the Repubs will not be able to do what they planned: plug a hole in the ballooning deficit by cutting Social Security, Medicare & other Federal safety net programs.

Well no, it’s very unlucky for all. The liberals will never the Scandinavian model of paying for benefits with greater resource extraction, and they won’t fix it like Chile did by privatizing the system, so we will end up like Brazil with ever increasing deficits in the social system. The socialist “safety net” is highly immoral and should be wholly abolished and all charity should be private

Yep, luckily the "ballooning deficit" is now going to be preserved with bipartisan efforts.

I appreciate their work and their prediction, but I'll wait and see what happens.

Fortunately, Congress has much less effect on the economy than they like to think they have.

The GOP had two years to fix the deficit. Instead they just ballooned it with their tax-bonanza for the wealthy/corporations.

That's the GOP economic cycle - run up the debt and deficits while in office, then leave the problem for the Democrats to fix when booted out of office.

It really is worrying how brazenly so many are willing to lie about factual reality, and are also allowed to vote.

No matter what the GOP of the past did, the GOP of the last three administrations have given no ****s about deficits, instead blowing them up, and yet their voters will happily lie about how it's supposedly the Democrats who don't care.

Edit: " the last TWO administrations "

I don't recall Bush Sr. blowing up the deficit but I could be wrong. Wasn't paying attention to politics at that time, other than to listen to a radio broadcast the night we went into Iraq and my parents' musings, such as:

"Oh, **** Bush" - Father. That wasn't about the invasion though.

I could say "skip one and it's FOUR" thanks to Reagan.

And we see that the Big Government Cheerleaders, the CBO, are continuing their flawless Wrong About Everything record...
